Do you ever get bored of coming to Vegas? I feel it;s such a no brainer vacation. I don't even really have to plan out much cause I know I'm going to have a good time when I'm out here. There are a ton of places in the world to explore, and yet I'm also enticed by the feeling......ONE MORE TIME.
For the more experienced hobbyist, is there something that keeps you coming back? Aside from the gambling, food, shows, clubs etc? Do you ever get bored coming back to Vegas for the upteenth time? Would there be another gambling town you'd try out like a Reno or a Macao? Or hell even a non-gambling bucket list destination?
Quote: mason2386It is the only place I have found that I can pull down my walls and be myself, or at least who I see as myself. I have thought/contemplated going elsewhere but that is where I can relax. Anywhere else seems like it would be work to get to know.
WOW - you took the words right out of my mouth.
My other $.02 is that when I am planning my trip and when I first arrive and take a lay of the land, I am so excited - however, if I start losing, the trip immediately revolves around chasing the losses and, at that point, it doesn't matter where in the world I am — I could be in the bathroom from the movie "Saw" and so long as there was a blackjack table there, my tunnel vision would prevent my senses from noticing anything else going on around me
I always find gambling in Las Vegas more fun than here at home. In Las Vegas, people are on vacation and are looking to have fun. Some of that seeking of fun is through gambling so there always seems to be a better time at the tables. Here at home people are looking for a diversion and the chance to win money on games of chance.
I enjoy gambling, but my stamina for it isn't large. I get an hour each of blackjack, craps, and video poker in per day on average. I think this helps keep my appetite for it up.
We mix in a lot of other vacation activities too. We try to catch a show or concert of some kind when we are there. We also hit a couple nice restaurants like Marche Bacchus or others. We also always have a car and get some shopping in too. We do some sightseeing as well in and around the Las Vegas area. Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon, Red Rock Canyon, etc. I still haven't gotten out to Valley of Fire State Park yet. I wanted to get some nice early morning or evening desert photos to hang in our house. Hopefully we'll get that done this trip.
So for myself, there are still a lot of compelling reasons to have Las Vegas as our winter getaway spot.

Yes, Las Vegas is supreme when it comes to shows / entertainment and fine dining.
But as for gambling: not so much.
That's why I don't go to Las Vegas other than about once a year: I can scratch my gambling itch much closer to home, be it day trip or overnighter.
The availability of tribal casinos has killed Reno, and Las Vegas is not doing too well either.
Quote: AsswhoopermcdaddyI've been to Vegas perhaps more times than I care to admit. I love the city, the atmosphere, food, partying, clubbing, shows, etc. But after coming to town for almost like 10 times and seeing the transformation of new hotels, I can't help but wonder if I'm getting bored of it. I've done many shows, clubs, casino hopped, and site seeing tours. I drive the city like its the back of my hand. When I'm in town, I find myself exploring further away from the strip.

Not that I get bored but in my line of work I spend between 2-4 months a year in Las Vegas, I still love it every time but I do try and visit other places. I have been to Atlantic City, Reno, Laughlin and I am actually going to Tunica/Biloxi in about a week. I also take a lot trips to non/gambling hubs although a lot of gambling is still done because of my line of work. Overall I would just say variety is best, try something new, it will make you enjoy Vegas the next time even more in my opinion.
You mentioned Macau, that is number 1 on my bucket list right now. Planning on doing it next fall/winter. I have read so many amazing things about the place, I definitely have the itch to go soon.
Quote: mcallister3200I like vegas because of the friendly deal..... I mean friendly pc's...... Ok fine, vegas is unique for having the most hostile dealers and pit crews you will find anywhere in the US.
It can be a good thing, in disguise.
One location we played BJ at (I don't think you ever went there with us)....the dealers were so overly friendly and way too chatty, they oftentimes slowed the game down to a crawl. Not to mention, they'd recognize you 2 months later, by (a fake) name. You'd sit down at a table, and everyone would pipe up, "How are ya doing there? I'm doing just great! I'm Mike, this is my wife Tricia, over here we got Joey--he's real crazy when he plays, and of course Bill, our friendly dealer. What's your name sir?" After all the ruckus ends, you start playing. You get a nice juicy hand, 7,7vs6 and split them. Dealer cracks his knuckles, rubs his palms together (ie: Okay, let's make you some money, kind of rubbing of hands), pulls out a card for your first 7, and you get a 4. Dealer gives a woohee and a holler! You place your double-down wager and the same thing happens again, cracks the knuckles, rubs his hands together and says, "Alrighty there -- you ready?! Good luck here, I know a big card's coming out......and here it is! OMG A TEN!!!! Wow congratulations, well done there! Awesome!!" And what seems like 20 minutes later you finally finish the hand, winning a grand total of 3x the table minimum. After a few decks of play and a negative count, you wong out. "It was a pleasure dealing to you, I wish you the best of luck! If you're going to go eat, I highly recommend our steak restaurant, they have the --- ahh yeah, it's the best steak you could ever imagine! It's fairly priced, too. I'm not sure if they're still open, hold on let me call the supervisor over, he'll know if they're still open." ..... "Hey there Zach, yeah my friend Charlie here was interested in eating at our steak restaurant, you know if they're still open? Hey Charlie, if you got a player's card you'll probably get a nice comped meal out of it....Zach get this guy a player's card, he's a real good guy!" You finally get away from the table, wander over to a new fresh-shuffle, and the whole thing starts over again...."Hey, how you doin' this evening? This is our friendly dealer, my name's......"
Walk up to a table and buy in. Dealer calls out "Cheque change, $500" a few times, no boss around, so he says "f*** it" and hands you the chips. Boss wanders over a few minutes later, asks dealer if you have a card, he says no -- boss has sigh of relief, slightly less work for him to do. You ask the dealer where he's from or what he does on his weekends, all you get back is a grunt and a few mumbled words -- OK cool, I don't gotta play with some chatty-Cathy dealer, works for me. Others at the table try making small talk with the dealer, he declines, they become uninterested and leave the table -- they wanna be entertained after all. And hey, if you smoke enough cigarettes or are annoying enough and ask for a comp, sometimes they'll just write you a comp so you'll leave! Can't beat that, can ya?
damn i wrote a lot

Ace that would be some freaky torture to be in that bathroom at a never ending table.
Quote: helpmespockI've been 10 times now as well (soon to be 11th this March). I still enjoy Las Vegas, but I think Las Vegas is best in small doses.
I agree - I only go for three or four days at a time, and it ends up being a balance between starting to get bored on the fourth day and not having enough days to try out all of the food options if I'm only there for three.
This past weekend, I was at The Palace Casino Resort for a 3 night stay - Thurs, Fri and Sat. (New Year's eve, naturally) I didn't even seek out this stay - my slot host booked it without me even asking her to do so.
It was an up and down experience. Rather, a down, then up experience. My bankroll was gone by Saturday morning. I used Free Play and chased those losses all but away - eventually getting 85% of my bank roll back.
I wanted to cut my losses, content with that - and yet, I still had Friday night and Saturday to contend with - or head back home early. I was essentially bored. I can only sit down for so long. I require something interesting - and after a time, tossing money in and mashing buttons by rote memory of best play just wasn't "fun" at the lower denominations. I knew there was a drawing Saturday night for more free play - and that there would be a sizable of free play available only on Sunday after 12pm (an hour after checkout). Yet, I felt as if, even at 75% of the value of free play - it wasn't worth sticking around. Just not fun. I love the fact that this place is non-smoking, but they have no entertainment, unless you count Karaoke as entertainment.
So, Vegas? There really is no comparison - but I can understand how you'd get bored with the same ol', same ol'. Anyone and everyone would.
Maybe it's best to limit your trips there - and go with a larger bankroll less frequently.
want to do there turns into an ordeal. Too
many people, too much walking, too much
waiting in line. Too much traffic. Since all
the Indian casinos have sprung up everywhere,
the bloom is off the rose in Vegas. The idea
of going to Vegas is still kind of exciting, the
reality is the opposite now. They say the best
part of owning a boat is when you sell it.
The best part of of going to Vegas now is
leaving Vegas.
Vegas has one attraction for me. All the casinos
DT are close together. I put up with everything
else just for that. Sometimes I think about moving
there and I ask myself the question: Do you wish
you were in Vegas right now? The answer is
always 'hell no'..

What is the EV of that anticipatory feeling one get when planning a Vegas vacation?
Quote: DRichI have been in Vegas for the last 25 years. I must admit that I am starting to get bored with it. If they would just put in a beautiful blue ocean and some white sand I could stay another 20 years.
If someone has a 100 billion to throw at it, I'm sure it could be simulated. Half giant lake, the rest mirrors and video screens. Waves, boats, surfers, even sharks all under a roof.

Naw, even that gets boring. I lived right
on the beach in Hawaii and after the
first 6 weeks it gets boring as hell. I
would hate to be super rich, you're
bored with everything then.
Vegas can be fun if you drink a lot while
you're there. You think it's exciting then,
when it's just the booze lowering your
expectations.

We all dream if being super rich but I have often wondered if that would happen. Gambling sure wouldn't be fun if I had 2 billion.

In the past Bill Gates had been known to play $5 limit holdem in Vegas. I don't know if he has stepped up to the 2/5 no limit now that limit is hard to find.
