Quote: beachbumbabsThe Novelty Song is by Ray Stevens ("The Streak") and it's something about a squirrel or mouse getting loose in a revival meeting in the deep South, but I don't know the title.
beachbumbabs,
Yes, Ray Stevens is the singer and your synopsis is essentially correct.
I'll wait a while yet to see if the answer materializes.

Quote: MoscaThat’s “Brick House”. Great tune.
Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down now! Winner!!

And now, in the category "Reggae", name that song...
Oh, my daddy he once told me, "Son, you be hard working man"
My mama she once told me, "Son, you do the best you can"
But then one day I met a man who came up to me and said
"Hard work good and hard work fine, but first take care of head"
Quote: DogHandMosca,
You're on the right track, but the song is sung by a female group. Here is the whole first stanza:
Well, I was standing in line at the city bus stop
Soaked to the skin from ev'ry rain drop
I see you driving by just like a Phantom Jet
With your arm around some little Brunette
You say you won't be home because you're working late
Honey, I'm no fool, you've been out on a date
The lipstick on your collar gives your game away
It's strawberry red and mine's pink rose

Shake it down, shake it down, shake it down now! Winner!!It's hard to think of something that says "funk" more than this Commodore classic. "Brick House" is another song on this thread that keeps finding new fans from its continued use in Hollywood productions.

Oh geez. I got no idea on this one. I can’t put it to a rhythm or a tune. Pass.

I smoke two joints in morning
I smoke two joint at night
I smoke two joints in de afternoon
It makes me feel alright
I smoke two joints in time of peace
And two in time of war
I smoke two joints before I smoke two joints
And then I smoke two more

Dog Hand”Have Mercy”, The Judds. We saw them at The Venetian a few years back, great show! Wynona still has it, Naomi was covered by a woman singing in the background, but still a fantastic experience.
Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

A Farewell to a King
I was saddened to hear that Neil Peart from Rush passed away this week at the age of 67. Many considered him to be the greatest drummer of all time. He also wrote most of the lyrics for the Rush songs giving the band its intellectual appeal.
So, in memoriam, in the category "Rush", name that song...
Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide

Quote: Gialmere...the reggae band The Toyes...
Oh damn, I didn't realize I was in the company of a connoisseur . I'll tighten up my game.
Two smiles in one day. Good job, thread =)
