The gal who does my payroll is so frustrated with the state of Vermont's state income/unemployment tax bureaucracy, where JB lives, that she is dumping me as a client. So, I'm suddenly looking for a new payroll service. Somebody who is comfortable with both Nevada and Vermont.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind, but generally prefer to do business with smaller businesses, where I'm not just a number.

Interesting. Earlier today my boss gave me a project: Find out all I can about ADP, Paychex, and a third party payroll service of my choice. He wants to know how much it would cost and how long of a conversion process it would take to have a third company process our payroll.
He's owned this company since 1984 and to my knowledge, we've always done the payroll himself, in house. (I've been here since 1999.) We have about 500 employees, total. The payroll program we are using now is "Macola" (I believe). We have one employee who's been with us 20+ years handles all of the payroll duties, and also doubles as our Accounts Payable clerk.
So for the next few days I'll be talking to reps and getting quotes and learning all I can about what the pros and cons are of us now possibly outsourcing this to a third party. (This is all new to me, by the way. I'm not sure why I was given this project.)
If anyone has any insight, please feel free to share.

I have too but they are on the expensive side. Recently we switched to a local accountant who does it for much less.
