The rights to the play were bought for twenty thousand dollars by Warner Brothers film studios to turn it into this movie. This was the highest payment at the time for a work previously never performed in public.
It wouldn't Google, but I didn't try all that hard yet. I'm going to guess, though: Gone With the Wind?
"movie A returning vietnam veteran questions his place in his family"
and came up with this:

Nope. I am not sure if Gone With the Wind ever was an unproduced play or not but of course it was a published best selling novel. There was no book associated with the movie I am thinking of.
Try again.

PublicEnemy?
Quote: paisielloThat could be any movie but I assume it is this one: "Reservoir Dogs"
Excellent try, but that is wrong, your movie didn't use one word in the clue ... and I disagree that it could be any movie.

Here is another try:
Quote: paisielloYou make it too easy I think. I just modified and googled this:

and came up with this:The War At Home
Nope. Wrong war.

Casablanca
(I don't know how to hide the answer.)
Quote: paisielloI am assuming you meant to say explicitly that the title or plot must somehow also refer to being "hot" as well as referring to an animal.
Here is another try:Dog Day Afternoon
Yes! Nicely done.

Here is a quiz from cracked.com.
The following six movies were remade (often faithful to the original), but the remake is much more famous.
Name the remakes (the year of the remake is a hint).
Remade in 1983 (same movie name / same theme / updated setting)
Remade in 1972 (art film remade as a low budget horror film).
(The director would become one of the best known horror film directors )
The film was remade again by a different director in 2009.
Remade in 1964 (shot by shot remake of Japanese film set as Western)
Remade in 1956 (same director as the original film / photo shows scenes from original and remake)
Remade in 1941 (original and remake had same name, it's obviously a thriller)
Remade in 1939 (one of the biggest movies of all time)

You mean both of my answers above were incorrect???
Or did you mean I didn't answer all of the questions?

I meant you didn't answer all of the questions. I wanted other people to take a chance, so I will answer you in PM.
Quote: DorothyGaleHmmm, I thought #3 was the Magnificent 7 ... but that was 1960 ...

I thought so, too. However there were actually two movies made in 1964 based on Kurosawa films, one of them much better known than the other so I guessed that one.

Good answer. How did you manage to get this one?

Quote: paisielloHere are my guesses:
You are 6 for 6. Excellent game. To be fair to Doc he did guess two of them right, which I didn't want to acknowledge until someone tried for all six.
Either you have a good sense of movies, or you are a good googler.
Although many people have seen a Wes Craven movie, his 1972 debut is usually known only to horror movie fans. Even fewer people know that it was an art house movie, because he is usually not credited as writing an adaptation.

Or both!

I remembered that Casablanca was based on an play that was never performed (from the DVD commentary - and Laserdisc commentary before that). I looked on IMBD and there was the exact answer to the question.
