If criminals were capable of rational thought liket that, then they wouldn't be criminals. It's all fun and games until someone's kid in a hoodie armed with Skittles and Iced Tea takes a shortcut across someone's property.Quote: zippyboyLas Vegas is a high-crime city. Hopefully other criminals will get the message. We don't like you. The courts don't like you. If you take a risk, you pay the price, and society's better off without you.
Did you read the article.Quote: s2dbakerIt's all fun and games until someone's kid in a hoodie armed with Skittles and Iced Tea takes a shortcut across someone's property.
The victim was not some kid trying to take a shortcut. Although unarmed, he was definitly up to no-good.
That was the fun and games part.Quote: DJTeddyBearDid you read the article.

I'm not saying the courts made a mistake as I'm not familiar with the law in Nevada, but I feel like picking off a criminal from inside the house without saying something like "hey, leave now, I have a gun" is...not the best thing in the world.
Quote: AcesAndEightsWhen you own a pistol for self defense and home protection, it should be the LAST resort, after telling the person to leave, etc. .
Nope, wrong on all counts. Somebody breaks into your house,
the gun is your FIRST resort. Talking the guy to death only
works on TV. In real life you get seconds to react and its
you or him. Do you know how many people are killed by their
own weapons every year, while they're waffling around trying
to figure out what to do? You're not a cop, you don't have to
yell 'Freeze!' before you shoot.
Neither would I.Quote: AcesAndEightsAs someone who will soon become a gun owner and hopefully a responsible one, I have to say that I don't think I would have shot the guy after simply making eye contact.
Re-read the article.
The chain of events was set in motion by ONE person.
Another interesting note about Nevada is the media has kept this guy's accurate address and name out of the news.
Quote: QuadDeucesWhen someone is breaking into one's house and you open the curtains and the guy KEEPS TRYING TO GET IN after making eye contact, I see no reason to wait any longer to stop his advance..
People live in the fantasy world of TV and the
movies. They think in a dangerous situation
they have all kinds of time to react.
I saw lots of bar fights because I had a bar.
In the movies they dance around and taunt
each other, and it goes on and on. In real
life, one guy usually attacks the other out
of nowhere and its over in about 10sec. I
never saw one single movie bar fight, they
don't happen.
Somebody breaks into your house, your life
might depend on who acts fastest and first.
