A peaceful sober crowd - how to bring in the new year's

I worked my sixth New Year's even on swing shift dealing. A pleasant surprise this time, things have gotten better IMO.

I brought in the new year's calling dice until 3AM. Every retiree who wanted to get away from the drunken scenes of the rest of Vegas came to the Fiesta, or so it seemed. It was a stunningly sober, quiet, and well-behaved crowd, just beautiful to deal to. I guess the rowdies were tearing down Joker's Wild or downtown or someplace else, and am thankful for it. Our group of gamblers changes over time as it does everywhere else, and we can see the ups and downs. We are in an upswing recently.

In any case, this made me think of how we, each of us, brings in the new year.

I had it slightly better, teaching dice to about 6-8 people to prepare them for a trip to Vegas. Guy was given a craps table as a gift 6 years ago and knew just the basics. I mean, regulation-size near-casino-grade table! Compared to the portable we usually have, which is nice for a portable, I thought I was healing in a private high-roller room at Wynn! Fun, laid back bunch. They had been paying all bets 1:1 when they played for fun, I showed them real odds. They learned how much there was to learn. Showed them how to bet and act at the table when the real thing comes.

Sweet night! No noise, no drunks, got done at 10:00. Home just after 12:00.

Instead of bringing it in, I have my years delivered :P

We were going to go to the casino, but as we left the restaurant, about 9PM, our daughter said, "I don't really want to go to that party. Do you guys want to just go home and watch TV?"

So we went home and watched Arrested Development on Netflix. Because the casino hasn't been away for 5 months, and it doesn't love us.
