They're not dollar stores, they're not thrift stores, they're not big-box stores or consignment stores. They're odd lot / job lot stores, that sell new merchandise, often discontinued lines bought in bulk from other retailers or really any merchandise they can find on the cheap. Big Lots was one, sort of, but now they are gone. Ollie's is a well known chain of them, and in New England it's Ocean State Job Lot.
I did find a place in town called Bulldog but he has mostly garbage in there, and some of the wares have the look and feel of being stolen goods. Then there is Raeburn's and that's kind of the products I have in mind, but that's also a small store and not a lot of selection.
Am I missing any? If not, in a metro area this size it almost seems like an unmet need, and opportunity. Interesting.
