My family's had some interesting pickings in Vegas though; my aunt snagged a loose ~2ct yellow diamond (~15k) in a really shaggy carpet, my sister a just-not-1ct engagement ring in a parking lot while getting shoes, and me... about 1oz bag of cocaine in the sofa cushions at Hard Rock.
Quote: MDawgAs far as the bits of gold or tiny gemstones this guy supposedly finds (assuming he doesn't just dump a gemstone or bit of broken jewelry into the works here and there to keep his videos interesting so that his sponsorship may keep sending him money) - fine. As far as anyone's finding anything identifiable, he should turn it over to the authorities or hotel security to see if anyone has reported it lost. And the crooked maid is a very bad egg.

I don't know that I would call her, 'Crooked,' it depends on what the property's policy is. At the hotel I used to manage, housekeepers would have to turn in any item believed to have more than $10 in value at the front desk, whereupon we would usually wait for thirty days for the guest to call and inquire about it. If the guest didn't call within that time, then the housekeeper to find it would get first crack---and beyond that---just whoever might want it. If nobody wanted it, then we would just throw it away.
The only exception was somewhat expensive items, in which event I would reach out to the guest to see if they wanted it back. The reason I didn't reach out to every guest is simply that there were so many items left behind, and obviously, the hotel would cover the costs to mail it back to them and it took me time to physically do that.
I guess my point is, if the hotel in question just allows housekeepers to take whatever they may happen to find, then your beef is really more with the hotel than it is with that housekeeper.
Oh, and I would obviously reach out to guests if they left some sort of medication behind.
***I should also add that casino hotels probably don't have as much time to deal with this sort of thing as I did.
That said, “find and discovery” process is interesting to me anyway.
I was seeing a chiropractor in LA.
Quote: heatmapi have posted about this a while ago but i have found a ring that i thought was real - it had a huge ruby in the middle with a row of tiny blue saphires around the ruby - with a row of tiny diamonds around the saphires - i returned it to the desk based on the advice that was given to me of a guy who did the communicaitons for the casino when it was constructed

Probably was returned to Graceland.
Quote: MDawgActually that guy has nothing on me. This trip in Vegas I have found paper bills, coins, chips up to $500., all sorts of stuff all over the place. The other day I found a sealed miniature bottle of this Scotch. Not that I wanted it or would drink it, but just...was something interesting to find.

A few decades ago went to Glenfiddich distillery in Scotland. At the end of the tour all the tourists are offered complimentary shots of the Scotch. I declined as I was driving, and on the ‘wrong’ side of the road at that. They went and got me two similar little bottles which I have to this day.
