I am curious why High Schools are noted on the WoV (follow the "maps" link above). I like the look of the map, but are the schools good landmarks/destinations?

The map "liberally borrows" from another map on Vegas Today and Tomorrow, which has the schools on it. We are fast and loose with copyright here on WoV.

Fast & loose with copyrights? Nothing could be further from the truth.

I believe both maps were created by the same person. There are too many similarities, as well as too many differences, for any other explanation.

As far as high schools and other 'land marks', no, they are NOT that useful. UNLV is probably the only school that deserves to be on the map.

If someone considers a High School to be a tourist attraction, he's probably taking the "Sin City" thing a bit too far.

Just thought I would revive this thread to post some comments, rather than starting a brand new thread. Does this constitute a violation of the new "no hijacking" rule? I have had a tendency to do such a thing....

I took a quick look at the map and noticed that just south of the Riviera there is a "Porposed Triple Five Resort" and downtown by city hall a "Porposed Sports/Events Arena". (Could it be the pools are stocked with dolphins?) Then east of Encore there is the "Wynn Gold Course Redevelopment". If I can pick up on three typos that quickly, there are perhaps a bunch more. Maybe either the artist or the Wizard should consider having an editor review the work? It's mostly a matter of the impressions that such oversights may leave.

The maps on this site have been a source of many headaches for me. They were done by some very talented artists in the Philippines. However, I don't think they have much experience with maps. The instructions were also relayed through at least one middle man. I'm so frustrated, I'm almost ready to make my own maps, if I only knew how. However, I make no apologies for the omission of high schools. The average tourist is not going to care about that. I've lived here 9 years and only know where a few of them are.

If anybody wants to discuss making some maps for me, send me a PM.

I think the point was that some high schools are listed, and it isn't clear why they would be.

I'm not a mapmaker, but I always enjoyed the tourist map that What's On Las Vegas included as an insert. It was prepared by Eureka Cartography of Berkeley, CA (http://www.maps-eureka.com/index.html). Maybe they have a version that would be appropriate online and would not intrude on the rights of their other client(s).

You're right, I was too hasty in my reply. Somebody in the Philippines is not going to know what is appropriate to put on the map and what isn't. I don't think I'm big enough to negotiate a deal with that web site you mentioned. They would probably brush me off like a flea if I wrote to them. Making your own I think is the way to go; you just need somebody who is artistic, knows the city, and has basic map-making skills.
