Any of you planning to attend, and if so would you report back as to how it went?
I'd like to know what he says in support of Dennis Hof, the Nevada pimp running for office.

I'm on my way to the airport now. Looks like we will just miss all the traffic. So far so good.Quote: KeeneoneI was wondering about possible traffic stuff and found this article. AF1 lands around 10:50am @ LAS and leaves around 3pm. Suncoast and South Point will be visited.

Guess I should actually look.
I overheard someone say it was causing their flight a 50 min delay..
I feel for anyone with connector flights, that has to fly the same day.Quote: AxelWolfOh no, I just heard an announcement flights are being delayed while the president land's. Hopefully it won't affect my flight..

Unless a person really gets something out of a POTUS or VP visit to their town, it is never worth it.
Years ago, after busting my ass all week long and wanting to get onto I-84 near Pendleton, the on ramps were blocked for VP Cheney's entourage running in a bubble down the freeway. I had to wait about a half hour to get on the interstate, even in very light traffic. All the Polls should be forced to stay in DC so they don't screw up traffic.
I remember traffic being held while Edwards got a 400 $ haircut. Sheesh.

Now you know how LA felt with
Obama's countless visits there to
kiss the butts of his show biz buds.
It was a total mess.

I saw AF1 on final approach while I was out and about. Awesome airplane.
Where you heading...Australia, Europe, or maybe Tucson? Safe travels. :)
Nowhere special. FYI I missed my flight somehow. They announced it was delayed and so I took my time but it looks like it went off on time(I was like 3 min late) I rerouted and I'll be 4 hours behind my original schedule. No big deal, the casino will wait.Quote: KeeneoneI saw AF1 on final approach while I was out and about. Awesome airplane.

Quote: VCUSkyhawkI am fascinated by all that goes into securing AF1 and the presidential limo. So luxurious and crazy secure.
Yes, but how secure is POTUS, really?
One would think that a determined terrorist armed with a Stinger missile or its equivalent could bring AF1 down while it's taking off or on final approach / landing.
For that matter, terroists with a mortar in a van with an open sunroof could lob a couple shells at a target in DC and make a quick getaway.
Not that they should, but they could.
Quote: VCUSkyhawkWhat kind of range can they fire from? I would imagine that SS would have the surrounding area pretty well scoped out prior to landing.
My apartment is off Sunset, by Sandhill. The approaching flights pass almost directly overhead, with their landing gear deployed.
Lots of businesses with nice flat roofs to set up all around the approach. Luckily, since they are landing, the noise is negligible.

"Reportedly, the Stinger launcher generally requires little-to-no maintenance beyond the attention to the BCU. The AIM-92 missile itself has an outward targeting range of up to 15,700 feet and can engage low altitude enemy threats at up to 12,500 feet."

I'm not going to ask this conversation to stop, but I will say that several of the phrases already brought into discussion can trigger further scrutiny. This website is crawled for keywords. (I'm being vague on purpose: I'm not privy to their triggers, but was involved in Presidential movement for a couple decades.) So take some caution in what you say about this. And no threats, even as a joke, are welcome. Thanks.

Quote: GWAEFor some reason I always thought af1 had some sort of fighter jets fly with it. Is that wrong?
I believe fighters are only scrambled if something unusual happens to the flight pattern or involving other planes around it.
Quote: GWAEFor some reason I always thought af1 had some sort of fighter jets fly with it. Is that wrong?
I’m pretty sure AF1 is always accompanied by a crew of fighter jets.
I’d say it’s practically impossible to kill a modern day POTUS. (Not a thread, I bleed orange.) Presidential motorcade is kind of incredible if you look at all the security around it. Same with AF1, White House, and other stuff. No reason to think someone on the roof of a building with some sort of device is any threat to AF1.

This in the vein of "personal safety" or "forum safety"?
Ah, nevermind. I mean, feel free to answer, as it's probably something I should know, but anything further and I'm just gonna start taunting. Talm 'bout Thought Police on this, the Lord's Day, as if they knew about the SA-8 I made out of an old hot water heater, SOS pads and a mess of Hot Wheels track.
I'ma go build something before I get triggered any further. Don't need to be at large, sitting here, thinking of things
For some time now NSA has, by report used a program which I believe is called Echelon to monitor and record every electronic communication on earth: yeah, every one.
It is done automatically, and the reams of recorded data are then run through a program which searches for key words or key phrases which, if detected, trigger the program to direct the recorded communication to a person to listen to and follow up on if necessary.
So yeah, not only is Big Brother watching us, he's been doing it for quite awhile.
The ostensible purpose of Echelon is to search for threats against the government, but it doesn't take a conspiracy theorist to speculate how it could be used to impair our personal freedom (think "warrantless wiretap").

Both, but primarily personal. As well-said below.
Quote: MrVFace, I think it is related to both personal and forum safety.

Exactly, MrV, plus more. I don't know what's out in the public realm any more, vs. my briefings and procedures, but the reality is Big Brother has only gotten Bigger and Nosier and more punitive since I retired.
Your post sounded as if this had been vastly accelerated, or that forum hosts could be somehow drawn into something they had no part of. The latter I'm aware of happening when a situation starts to have real world effects or an actual act has been done, as we see nowadays with, say, Facebook before Congress. But it got me thinking that if I stated I wanted to take a 5lb mallet to that puckered anus Trump calls a mouth, that mayhap Zuga would be getting visits / correspondence he shouldn't have to deal with. And that wouldn't be cool, so figured I'd ask, what with my penchant for saying f#$%ed up things.
Whatever. If ain't no one visited me yet, reckon I won't ever be visited. I've mellowed quite a bit with age. Hell, my list only has about 5 people these days, and three of them are still Willis Carrier =p
When Obama was in office he'd run his mouth about how he thought Obama should be ----ed (word not used to avoid a redflag for the government spy program).
He'd mouth off in public, for example while standing in a line.
Twice people made a complaint and twice the FBI contacted him about it.
He's still got a big mouth but now it's muzzled.
Quote: billryanIn 1979, I was an ROTC Cadet and while standing online for Dead/Willie Nelson tickets, we were discussing a theoretical takeover of the Indian Point Atomic Energy plant just outside NYC. Someone overheard us and called Hofstra security to tell them that they had overheard us talking about attacking the campus. It got settled pretty quickly with a bit of laughter but if that happened today?
In retrospect, do you think the person who turned you in was just a jerk, or really thought you were about to do harm? I am very careful about such talk because although I know it would eventually work itself out, the process must suck....
