May 4, 1988 in Henderson, NV, the second largest non-ordnance explosion in U.S. history occurred. There were several explosions in this event and the largest had a yield of approximately 1 kiloton of TNT. (The largest non-ordnance explosion in U.S. history was the Texas City explosion of 1947 with an approximate yield of 2.7 kilotons of TNT.)
