I was taught, growing up, to allow everyone on the elevator to exit before I stepped in -- apparently that is not the rule as, before he doors are even fully open, people waiting for the elevator are already stepping in and even bumping into the people attempting to exit

Often times if I'm on an elevator and know I'm about to get off I will stand right in front of the door, confident and ready to exit aggressively pressing past anyone who thinks they will board before I get off.

I see this happening more and more AoS. I am only 36 years old and don't call myself old-fashioned by any stretch of the imagination. I am beginning to think the same people that are teaching people cell phone etiquette are now teaching elevator etiquette

I work in an environment where to leave the secure perimeter you have to walk through a sallyport. The inside gate opens and you enter the sallyport. Once the gate closes behind you the next gate in front of you opens and allows you to exit. An elevator door opens and allows your entry and closes. When you reach your desired floor, you exit.

In the last 6 months i see staff rushing to enter the sallyport before the staff inside are able to exit. Much like what is described. Now I want out of the prison and want to go home and they are racing to get in.

Casino action happens on the floor not the room. It's not just elevator in the past six months but it is strange.

I saw a rant similar to this on another forum and I can't believe it turned into a baby boomer vs millenials discussion. I feel that some people just suck overall, not because of what generation they are from.

Agreed. And you shouldn't even have to be taught elevator etiquette, it is OBVIOUS to let people get out before you get in.

I also hate when a group stops to chat and blocks the entire hallway. What are you thinking, BE CONSIDERATE for a change.

Yeah I never get why people do this. Its not like its going to speed up the process. They can't close the doors and go up until everyone exits the elevator anyway. In fact they are slowing down their trip by creating an obstacle that will slow down the exiters.

I absolutely agree except for the new Ninja generation LOL

While this behavior also annoys me, in a very small defense of these people, I have to admit I see more elevators that start to shut the doors within a second of opening completely.

When at the courthouse I have to ride an elevator many times a day. I always try to let people exit first, but sometimes a few things happen. One is if they are "hidden" when the door opens and you cannot see them. Happens sometimes. Next is they lollygag about leaving the thing. That happens sometimes as there are lots of visitors who do not know the building. Usually it is a combo of them both.

My bigger issue is the lumps who act like they have never had to pass a security checkpoint and metal detector. Slows everything down. Or they are carrying a pocket knife or something. Once a woman had a horse pick and had to check it. Come on!

Well in fairness, I think its just a matter of understanding that there will be differences in outlook and perception. Here's a helpful guide for employers.

Yep, fun video. But in fairness, I will say that the new hire 20-somethings where I work are smart and capable and appear to be consiencious and hard-working. Generally, they have a professional/technical background.

IE, so not your stereotypical millenials.

I was just in an elevator with 10 people. I let one go right as the door opened. That will teach the people to rush onto an elevator. True story.
