I will try hard to post my last 4, one each day. Here is the first one.
City: San José
Casino: Concorde Casino (Best Western Irazú)
Concorde casino is located west of San Jose downtown area, right off of Highway 1. It has a Denny's onsite. It's a comfortable casino with warm colors. Photos can be found on Google. It has 4 poker tables, 1 Rummy at Colones 2-10k/$5-50 USD, 2 Canasta, 4 PGP, 1 "Holdem Concorde" which is probably UTH, and 1 eRoulette.
I played PGP and right after the 1st hand, the pit noted my initial bet of 10k colones and gave me a computer printed slip of matchplay for 10k/$20, but I lost it when I played it a few hands in. Also, I noticed some players had their keys and/or smartphones on the table, and one guy was even streaming youtube without incident, but talking about the cards was strictly prohibited.
The chip itself is the same on both sides with no city listed, so I listed it as San Jose in the title. It's also pretty nice for a $0.20 USD chip.
The color of other chip denominations were:
100 brown, 500 blue, 1k red, 5k purple/grape, 10k green, 50k off-white/light gray, 100k black.
$1 approx 550 Colones when it was collected in Feb 2017.
Quote: KonbuHello everyone I just returned from Macau and Taiwan! I had no time to collect, let alone play. It will have to wait until next time.

I take it that it was work that took you to that part of the world? Too bad you couldn't collect any chips in Macau.
Are you planning on coming to Spring Fling?

I was traveling with someone who doesn't gamble and we only had a day to take in the sights. We ended up doing a 5 min tour of Grand Lisboa then left the casino for other touristy locales.
I will be in London, Paris, and Amsterdam during the Spring Fling! I need to do homework on which casinos I can visit but I have so little time!
City: Alajuela
Casino: CIRSA (Fiesta Alajuela)
There are multiple Fiesta casinos and this one is located in Alajuela, just a few miles north of SJO (Juan Santamaría International Airport). It has 1 PGP at 5k colones/$10-500 and bonus bet of $2-100, BJ with $1-15 perfect pair bet, 1 3CP, and 1 Canasta. The Casino Fiesta across from the Holiday Inn Express next to the airport also uses the same chips.
Like at the Concorde casino, the table sup noted my initial bet of 5k colones and gave me a computer printed slip of matchplay for 5k, and I think I won it this time.
The chip itself is a tophat cane with gold foil and is the same on both sides with no city or actual name of the casino listed, just the gaming company's name of CIRSA which stands for "Compañía Internacional de Recreativos S.A."

Holy crap you travel for work a lot. I want your job minus the work so basically I'd like a company to pay me to travel and pay for said travel. Know of any openings like that?

Hehe... Does Canada have a Navy?
Btw I have a chip to post when Konbu is done as a friend brought me one back from his travels.
PG: I should have clarified. I wish it was a work trip... but nope, everything was out of pocket, personal vacation.

City: San José
Casino: Cariari (Crowne Plaza San Jose Corobici)
This casino is located inside the Crowne Plaza just off of Highway 1. It is hard to miss going to and from downtown San Jose and the airport. It has 2 PGP, 1 Baccarat, 1 BJ, 2 Canasta, and 3 poker tables. Their chips all have different kinds of flowers.
Right outside the entrance to the casino I saw a metal plaque stating the casino is operated by a company called "Rio tranquility s.a." I visited in the late afternoon and the place was dead. It didn't help that my notes have me losing 39k colones playing PGP, or $70 some dollars.
I walked from here to the Palma Real, then across and along Highway 1 to the Concorde Casino. It was dangerous since there were parts of the highway with very little shoulder for walking. I don't recommend it and would have rather spent the few dollars and take a taxi had I known.

Why did you plan for only one day in Macau? Seems like a long way from Taiwan for one day.
Here is the last post until I get some from Europe.
City: San José
Casino: Palma Real
The Palma Real is located in a quiet mixed business/residential neighborhood just a few minutes walk from the Crowne Plaza. It has 5 PGP at $10-, 1 Baccarat, 1 Canasta and 2 eRoulette from Abaco that I've mentioned before.
Wizard has written about it in his Costa Rica casinos page.
I don't remember why I was playing in US dollars, either I ran out of Colones or the Colones denominated chips weren't nice or some other reason. The only thing I remember is there were like 10 Chinese and 1 tico (Costa Rican native) spread out in 3 or 4 PGP tables and most were betting bigger amounts like $100-300 and $15-25 bonus a hand.
Also, there are shufflers at the PGP tables and the dealer would grab the cards, move the hand towards the spot to be dealt, then return it to the discard tray, all in a very quick motion if there's no bet. Also, winning hands get paid and collected to the discard tray, losing hands the same, but if the hand pushes it's left on the table until all hands are resolved. Just different procedures from many other places I've played at.

Thank you Konbu for the cool posts. I really like the last chip, the green inserts go well with the green on the inlay.
I will try and post the chip that my friend brought me back from his trip most likely later today. I'm just headed to bed after a very late (or is early at this point?) night at the casino.
Konbu Amsterdam there is just the one chip to collect and I'm not sure if there are any chips to collect anymore in Paris. As far as London I have it planned down to which order to collect in. How much time and freedom will you have in London cause there are a lot!
For Paris I found the Casino Barriere in the suburbs. Looks like entry fee on weekdays is 10 Euro before 3PM or 13 Euro after and includes a drink (what I don't know). Tables open at 4pm. It's all over in regards to dress code. Some places say tie and jacket, no jeans.
London I'll try to get into the ones I'm allowed that are in cluster near Hyde park but won't strive to catch them all, only if convenient.
As for Amsterdam do you know if they all use same chip? I saw there are many branches of the same casino. One I must visit is of course the one at the airport!
Country: Melbourne, Australia
Casino: Crown
Today's chip of the day is from the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia. I have not personally been to Australia. My friend brought the chip back for me when he was there in January. He was there with my other friend for the Aussie Millions poker series. Crown Casino opened in 1994 and has been owned by James Packer since 1999 when he bought it from Lloyd Williams. It was originally built on the north bank of the Yarra River, eventually relocating to a new building on the south bank of the Yarra River in 1997. The casino has 2628 gaming machines and 590 table/poker games.
The chip is low quality, I am not sure who the maker of the chip is. The chip is white with everything hot stamped on it in navy blue. The chip has 8 navy blue edge inserts and Crown around the inlay 3 times. The inlay has the location, denomination of the chip and the Crown logo.
Doc when you index this chip put it as Crown Melbourne as we may someday have a chip posted from Crown Perth. Didn't Wezvidz have a chip to post? Have you heard from him lately?
Edit: Obviously this chip isn't part of my collection but instead sits in a bag with other chips that friends have brought back for me when they travel.
Can you believe it? I can't get internet service at the Gold Strike! I called their Tech Assistance number and talked with someone (in India, I think) for more than half an hour without progress. The call ended with him telling me, "It should be OK; I've created a ticket on it." Like that gets me on the internet and makes it all OK.
During the conversation, he tried to call the hotel but told me he was having difficulty getting an answer. After that call, I tried calling the hotel operator myself from the room phone, and I couldn't get an answer either. I went down to the front desk, and there were two girls there doing nothing. I don't know whether they are supposed to handle house operator calls. I asked about internet problems, and one told me that there is some kind of problem and that someone is supposed to be working on it. She had no idea when (if?) it would be fixed. So much for internet service included for free with the room.
I suspect they are "challenge" coins which are typically exchanged by members of the armed services. Given the President's support by members of the military and veterans, I would not be surprised if he has quite the collection.Quote: WizardIt looks like President Trump keeps a collection of what looks kind of like casino chips. Maybe a little bigger and they don't all seem to be exactly the same size. Does anyone know what they actually are. Here is a link where you can see them. It is the first story on the news that day: 3/24: Republicans pull Obamacare replacement as bill fractures party; Double-amputee ex-Marine graduates from N.Y. police academy.
Here is an account of him receiving one as President Elect
Had a very disappointing visit at the Gold Strike. In a two day stay, I had problems with (1) no internet service, (2) no one answering the hotel phones for calls from inside and outside the facility, (3) substantial odor of cigarettes last night when we returned to our non-smoking room surrounded by non-smoking rooms, (4) no hot water available at the bathroom sink -- think cold-water shave, and (5) when we checked out this morning and wanted to report this series of bad experiences, the wait to see a manager was more than an hour. Seems that before I even spoke to them they knew about internet and water heater problems.
Drove down to Biloxi and the Beau Rivage today. The room here is much nicer; internet service worked immediately (Crown Melbourne chip added to the index); we had a nice dinner, and (quite surprisingly) I am ahead at this casino. Amazingly different experiences thus far for visits to the two MGM casino hotels in Mississippi.
The sale of Resorts and Ballys hasn't been completed yet, it still has to be approved by the gaming board. They expect that to be done by this fall.
;-)
I rather expect that you could convince most any of the other collectors (or even non-collector WoV members) who will be there the weekend of 21-23 to pick up a chip for you. That is, unless you want a purple, banana, chocolate, or some such frivolity to be paid for "later". I suggest that you pick someone and contact them by PM, since they will need a mailing address and possibly even your identity.
I am going to try to make it back down on Thursday but not sure if I will.
Quote: rdw4potusSo...how long does chip cleaning take, exactly? :-)
Well see... I have no good excuse. They have been sitting on my kitchen side counter for close to a month and I haven't touched them. I have no good excuse except laziness. Maybe I will get on that later today.
Quote: AyecarumbaHas anyone heard from Doc? I am praying everyday that things are going better for him and Mrs. Doc.
I have a date with them tomorrow. I will encourage him to check in here, or allow me to provide an update, but I can promise neither at the moment.
As for cleaning chips, it didn't happen. I smushed my car and have been car shopping.
He and Mrs. Doc are doing better than I had hoped to find them. They have been quite busy with all the details that go with unexpected loss. They are deliberately taking a break from that for their personal relief, and so are in the area.
Doc says they have gone from bad to worse to terrible to outraged as they pursue this. The outrage is the only real development beyond his initial post; there was a miscommunication among authorities in NJ, and as a result, an autopsy was not done, and now they will never know what happened. This has left a hole in their lives, not having resolution but, there were no signs of foul play, so there will be no further investigation.
They have both been astonished by the number of people their son touched with his life, and I think it has brought them a great deal of comfort and pride to find out how well respected and liked he was by his peers and many others he knew and worked with.
He will see us soon, and expects to do the eclipse in August as planned.
Doc, if you're reading this, you have my sympathy at this difficult time. It is hard to know what to say. All I can think of is I'm very sorry for your loss.
I am glad to hear you are still on the for eclipse. Take your time in your grief but I look forward to your return when the time is right.
Doc I hope things get easier as time goes on. I'm glad that your son was able to touch so many people's lives in a positive way. I just want you to know that I am thinking of you and your wife.
Quote: PokerGrinderOk so I have good news and bad news. Bad news is my thumb is raw. The good news is it is raw from cleaning all the chips I collected from my Spring Fling trip. I will most likely take pictures of them all and upload them tomorrow. If all goes to plan there will be a chip of the day tomorrow.
Sweet. How's the car?
Quote: AyecarumbaSweet. How's the car?
Oh the car is totaled. I bought a Kia Forte, time to start racking up the miles on a new car.
City: Chula Vista
Casino: Seven Mile
Well this took me a very long time to get to but you all should be used to that by now. I have 14 chips to present as new chip of the days and after that I will show some other new chips that have been posted as chip of the days but not my exact chip.
Today's chip of the day is from the Seven Mile Casino in Chula Vista, California. The casino (actually a card room since it only has tables) opened on May 6, 2015. It is the same owners from the closed Village Card room but in a different location. It actually ended up being in the same parking lot as my hotel. This is the same hotel that I stayed in with my dad 5 years ago. Casino city says they have 20 table and poker games but that doesn't seem correct. If my memory is working I remember close to 15 poker tables and probably close to that in table games.
I visited this casino as my tenth and final of a very long day. I didn't stay for very long because I was so tired. If I am remembering correctly the game was banked by a third party but they paid the per hand ante not the player. Again it was very late at night and I could be wrong on this. Anyways I ended up losing $48 and I now remember why I left down, 6:5 BJ. I got a BJ and cashed out in disgust. I was too tired to even think to check that when I got there.
The chip is blue with two pink edge inserts. The chip is a RHC model by Paulson. The centre inlay is black with "Seven" in orange and the rest of the casino name, the denomination and the location all in white. I am not sure what the white symbol is to the bottom right of "casino".
I think this transfer may actually be a handshake deal to allow the previous owner of Seven Mile to satisfy the terms of his plea deal that require him to relinquish management for a couple of years. When that time is up (2019?/2020?), there may be new chips at Seven Mile again.

Did I miss the car story?
