Dancer Article
P.S. Here's Hoping Dr. Paul wins the Hawkeye Cauci tonight.
games. Is this a sign of the end times? He'll turn everybody in the
audience into licence plate pickers, finding him the good deals
on rare plates. Hey, thats not a bad idea, come to think of it...
"I'm sure Mike will add his own stamp on the show and the program will evolve over time. Like Richard, Michael has given me his word that he'll stay with the show at least six months. So maybe he should be called a semi-permanent co-host."
I listen every week, and have listened to the
archive. The show is guest driven, bad guest
equals a boring show. Try and find the best
guests you can, obviously. Prep time for any
successful radio show is the key. Rush Limbaugh,
the King of Radio, talks about that all the time.
He works constantly when he's not on the air,
reading and making notes for the show. Even
a small show needs lots of prep time. I'd like
to see more Vegas oriented guests, combined
with the gambling guests. Talk about restaurants,
the best casinos to play in, find a guest who can
talk about the Mob in old Vegas, or what happens
when you get banned now. Talk about cheats, and
AP's, and porn slappers. Keep it interesting and people
will listen. Frankly, some of the archived shows are
so boring, I gave up on them..
Not being a video poker enthusiast, I generally ignore Bob Dancer's column.
So thanks for the info. But on that subject, ahem, somebody needs to learn how to toot his own horn once in a while!

I know, right? I thought for sure this would have already been posted here when I saw it....

Indeed, I plan to bring more diversity in guests and topics to the show. For example, interviewing some average people in common occupations in Vegas, like dealers, cocktail waitresses, strippers, hosts, etc..
If anyone here thinks they would make a worthy guest, PM me. Let me say now that I'm not interested in talking about betting systems or predicting the number number in roulette.

How many listeners does the show have? Dancer
would know, they need the info to know how much
to charge for ads. I'm assuming 95% of the listeners
live in Vegas, with maybe some, like me, who listen
on the net. This means all your guests have to be
Vegas oriented. People love off the wall stories about
what happens in Vegas. Richard Marcus would make
a great guest, as would that Griffin investigator who
was always after him. He's starting a new company,
I read. Older retired pit bosses have great stories.
Casino hosts have great stories. Find an educated but
homeless guy, who lives on the street there. I would
think a wedding chapel owner would be interesting.
I'll be wracking my tiny brain over this, I listen every
week and don't want the show to fail.
Quote: WizardSorry I didn't tell you guys first. Bob asked to break the news first yesterday, and then I was free too. However, I was rather busy yesterday and didn't bring it up.

Would the show be available on a podcast? I wouldn't mind having a listen but with time zone differences (and child-minding duties) I probably wouldn't get a chance to catch it live.

They archive the show here, just click. MP3 I think it is [I didnt have to download anything, my computer was ready to play it] Podcasts, I dunno.
Quote: odiousgambitIn the article he calls you Mike, but also "Shack", which I havent heard before. Some call you that?
I've been frequently called that all my life, but not so much lately.
I watched that video, and thought that this guy spent a minute and a half, just barfing out words. He never said anything. Of course, the clip also had a lot of bad edits, so I watched a few of his other videos.Quote: MrVYou might consider getting John Patrick as a guest.
He posted on his board that he is a regular guest on call-in radio programs.
Could be ... interesting ... as in the old Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times."
patrick
About all I can conclude is that he has a craps strategy that he believes in, but can't explain it if his life depended on it.

Well, that was certainly edited to make him look like an idiot. But I suspect he or his people did the editing!!
I agree on both points.Quote: odiousgambitWell, that was certainly edited to make him look like an idiot. But I suspect he or his people did the editing!!
But I also watched some of his other stuff.
Even those times where he actually completes a sentence, it still doesn't make much sense.
in Vegas in the 50's and 60's. Just don't let him
talk about the specifics of his methods, he can't
explain them so they make any sense.
One thing I don't like about the current show is
Munchkin is not in the studio, he's on the phone.
Its terrible, he sounds tinny and far away and
talking on a 50's dial phone. At least the Wiz will
be in the studio, I'm assuming. That will be a big
plus right there.

Another radio show that does archives on the internet uses Skype now [presumably for the guest who would otherwise be on a phone]. I'm not so sure Skype isnt involved generally somehow, the sound quality has improved tremendously. I'd like to see this show improve the sound.

It's true. You'd think with maybe an hour or two of effort they could skype him in and you would have no idea he wasn't sitting right next to dancer.
Quote: WizardThere will be no quacks as guests.
You should reconsider. I can think of two good reasons to bring in a quack: 1) To expose him, or her, thus rendering a valuable public service and 2) You might get good ratings moderating a debate between Dancer and Logan, I mean Singer (I mean Logan).

Must be about casino owners.Quote: bigfoot66the weekly radio show Gambling with an Edge.
The show IS available as a podcast - at least the episodes since 10/7/11. Just search for "Gambling With An Edge".
Yeah, that's already been mentioned, but nobody had confirmed the podcasts before now.
Podcasts are preferable because each show comes complete with a description that shows up in iTunes, and each new show will download automatically.
Capt Kirk broadcasts from the pod?
interviewed the gorgeous Chinese wife of the MIT
BJ team guy on Thursday, in the studio. I've never
heard them so animated, so yukking it up and happy
to be there. You have to have her back, she was
entertaining as hell. Charming in the extreme.

While the sound quality of the phone-in people has been questionable at best, the volume is a bigger problem. Nobody has the same volume levels. And the overall volume isn't loud enough.Quote: EvenBobOne thing I don't like about the current show is

I've listened to other podcasts that had volume problems, and wrote it off as being a problem because they were ameteur podcast productions.
This is a REAL radio show! You'd figure they'd have the volume problem worked out!
Whatever. I'll be downloading when available, and hopefully listening without straining to listen.
he has a tendency to mumble. I think
he's aware of it, you can hear him really
trying to speak clearly, especially at the
start of the show. This is why the big
raido pro's like Hannity or Rush or Larry
King have those deep voices, they're easily
understood on the radio.
Michael is darn good on the radio and brought in a great guest and the show was very interesting. For some reason the sound was much better this show, do anything different?
(Always good to have some praise after the criticism on the video [g])

PPS: the tune you are searching for: I'm fairly sure it was heard on the Benny Hill Show of years ago. I suspect it was already out there from something else, though.

We already have a winner to the contest. The song it titled Mah Na Mah Na. It is originally attributed to an obscure Sweedish porno movie. However, it later gained fame on the Benny Hill Show, Sesame Street, and the Muppet Show. Since I watched all three of those shows, at different stages in life, I don't know where I picked it up from. Probably Benny Hill.
The producer of the show said "Benny Hill" after the show, but I incorrectly corrected him, thinking of Yakety Sax. Evidently Mah Na Mah Na was played on that show as well. Can our UK members comment?
Quote: WizardHowever, it later gained fame on the Benny Hill Show,
I recognized it as a song played as background
music for video being showed, but I couldn't
place the show. I thought maybe Laugh In, they
showed a lot of video just like Benny Hill did.
Um, I was actually looking for the podcast, rather than the MP3 file.Quote: WizardNow. Click here.Quote: DJTeddyBearWhen is the 2/2 podcast gonna be available?
There are a variety of advantages to a podcast rather than an MP3.
Among other things, the iPhone music player does additional things when it's playing a podcast rather than an MP3, such as a 30 second rewind button, and a 2X and 1/2X speed option.
Quote: bigfoot66Are you all going to be updating the itunes feed of the show?
I'll have to ask Bob about that. I didn't even know anyone was doing that.
As I recall, creating the initial podcast was detailed, but adding each additional podcast was easy.
Unless things changed, it's just a matter of adding the full description to the MP3 (you're already doing that), uploading it to a specific website (I don't recall if that is your own website or Apple's site). I think if it's Apple's site, then you're done. If it's your own site, you probably merely have to go to the podcast account and enter the url of the new issue.
Bottom line, it takes a minute or so each week.
You should probably ask Richard Munchkin for the details. I'd bet he was doing it - his name was in the Author field of the podcasts.
