We don't own this place, although we act as if we did
It belongs to the children of our children's kids
The actual owners haven't even been born yet.
But we never tend the garden, and we hardly pay the rent.
Most of it is broken, and the rest of it is spent
Put it all on plastic and wonder where we'll be when the bills hit.
Have you done something nice for our Mother Earth today?

Did somebody say sing along? (This is from an episode of Rocko's Modern Life that premiered on Earth Day in 1996)

As I recall it, the original Earth flag looked very much like the Brazilian flag. It seems gto have been quietly retired.

Another silly day, right up there with national pickle week. Every year I spend this day on Earth, the whole day. That's my contribution.

Apparently, it is also National Pin-Up day.
I should buy a suggestive air freshener to dangle in the windshield or something.
May the cards fall in your favor.

Actually we do own it if our great-grandparents said this.
The problem is that people who think they "do good things for the Earth" are either clueless about what that means or doing more damage in the long run.
One example is forests and fires. People get into this thing about not cutting down trees, "preserving" the forest, and other things that sound good. Meanwhile loggers and others who actually work with trees get made to be evil. But when you let undergrowth happen it causes conditions for fires. Then the fires get blamed on global warming.
So the global warming industry sends people in private jets and big SUVs to some kind of meeting that does little but they feel good.
I do my best to live small. I throw my coffee grounds not in the trash. I don't have a huge place and closets after closet full of clothes I barely wear. I (mostly) filter my water instead of buying bottled. The biggie is I try to avoid waste. Too many people do not.

It's also School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, National Jelly Bean Day, and National Girl Scout Leader's Day. Everyday of the year now has this nonsense attached to it.

My favorite holiday, and probably our most important one. She takes care of us, we should take care of her.

An Earth Day miracle, of sorts.
I started an Earth Day thread on one of my Facebook groups, and a member posted a photo from the first EDay celebration. The man was a student activist at the time, and the image showed a bunch of students on stage with the Wisconsin Senator, who was most responsible for the event.
A man piped in and said the girl on stage is a dead ringer for my wife. It turned out to be his wife, and the two students knew each other from the park, never realizing they had shared a stage 55 years ago.
