Enigmatic evil genius bajillionaire Elon Musk’s Boring Company has been given approval for an underground transportation system that could change how people get around Las Vegas forever.
Clark County officials gave a big thumbs up for the system that will involve 29 miles of tunnels, up to 51 stations and a shit-ton of Teslas.
The best part is Boring Company is paying for pretty much the whole shebang, excluding certain stations (casinos will foot the bill for those). Three word: No. Taxpayer. Dollars. https://bit.ly/3jHKloA
Interesting. Will it really happen ?
From the Boring Company Website:
The Vegas Loop will provide fast and convenient transportation to the Las Vegas community, its visitors, and beyond. The Vegas Loop will include LVCC Loop and any future service extensions including those to casinos along the Strip, Harry Reid International Airport, Allegiant Stadium, downtown Las Vegas, and eventually to Los Angeles. Once complete, the Vegas Loop will transport more than 90,000 passengers per hour.
Clark County and the City of Las Vegas have approved a total of 68 miles of tunnel and 104 stations for the Vegas Loop.

"Eventually to Los Angeles" ? ? ? ? ?
I am guessing that is going to be decades from now, IF EVER.
The math is daunting.

Yep, I attended some of the Big Conventions back in the day. Attendees come and go through-out the day, so I doubt that 50K all leave at once. BUT yeah, there was a LONG LINE for buses, nevermind TESLAs, at the end of the day.

Some of the shows attract over 100K, so it wouldn't surprise me if the peak exits hit the 50K mark. The point is that you'd need hundreds, if not thousands, of vehicles at the peak. What happens when one car breaks down in the tunnel? I like the idea, but I'm not sure it is feasible to scale it to the point of usefulness.

I'll give it a try...
:P
Quote: boringcompany.comLVCC Loop opened in April 2021 for the Mecum Motorcycle Auction and has operated at all subsequent conventions. To date, LVCC Loop has transported over 1.5 million passengers, with a demonstrated peak capacity of over 4,500 passengers per hour, and over 32,000 passengers per day.
It certainly won't replace taxis/buses/Uber/Monorail, but it would provide another viable transportation option, lessening the burden (in theory) of the others.
The price point and transit times they are touting look like a fantastic value.

Airport to downtown in 8 minutes for $12? Even if you had to wait in line 20 minutes to get one, you'd still beat the taxi/uber there, and at a quarter of the price.
I'm curious if anyone here has ridden the LVCC loop?

Tesla advertised the Model S would be under $40,000. I think the cheapest model came in at around $53,000 and was the lowest priority on the assembly line. The Cybertruck was said to be $39,000 but the only models made to date cost nearly $100,000.
Tesla's still can't selfdrive ten years after Musk claimed they would. His price projections are farcical and he tends to overpromise. I believe this project is already years behind schedule.
I hope this is a big success, and makes getting around casinos easier. Now, I'm burnt out on Musk and wish he'd take a long sabbatical at a silent monastery.
- Just a thought.
