EDIT: So apparently the game is called "Wanton" which sounds a lot like "Wonton"

The game is played similar to Badugi in that the lowest rainbow hand takes down the pot.

Players are dealt five cards and may discard all five cards per drawing round; there are 3 drawing rounds.

In Wanton, "the original" is the card that is being counterfeited.

Wanton (badugi w/ a high card counterfeit):
A♦, 2♣. 3♠, 4♥, 5♦
A♣, 2♦, 3♥, 4♠, 5♦
A♥, 2♠, 3♦. 4♣, 5♦
A♠, 2♥, 3♣, 4♦, 5♦

A losing hand:
A♠, 2♥, 5♣, T♦, 7♣ <--Counterfeit must be highest card.

The further the counterfeited card is from the original the better the hand:
A♦, 2♣, 3♥, Q♠, K♦ beats A♥, 2♣, 3♠, 4♦, 5♣
A♦ is 3 cards from K♦ and 2♣ is 2 cards from 5♣

The best possible hand is A♦, 2♣. 3♠, 4♥, 5+♦
The worst "3 between" hand is 9♦, T♥, J♠, Q♣, K♦

If both players have originals the same number of cards from their counterfeit then the best 4 card hand wins (5th card will always be counterfeited).

There is no betting:
Ante 1 chip to get your cards
Pay 1 chip per counterfeited card to fold before the last drawing round.
Pay 2 chips per counterfeited card to fold after the last drawing round.
Pay 4 chips per counterfeited card if you lose to a showdown.

If you are folding, place your cards face down in front of you and the money on top of your cards.
After the showdown, your cards will be turned over to make sure you gave the correct payout.

If no player has a Wanton then the remaining players pay for their counterfeits (4 chips per counterfeit as they both lost on the showdown),
the money stays in the pot, and a new round begins.
If everyone folds then the remaining player automatically wins.

Note: there will always be at least 1 counterfeited card.

Practice Hand 1:
I payed one chip and was dealt: 3♣, 3♦, 5♦, 7♠, K♣
My hand is 3♣, 5♦, 7♠, K♣
Cards that help me are the 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, T, J, & Q♥
Cards that hurt me are the A & 2♣ as I will then be drawing for ♣ & ♥.

Draw 1:
I decide to discard the 3♦ and draw the 5♠
My hand is still 3♣, 5♦, 7♠, K♣ w/ a second counterfeit the 5♠.

Draw 2:
I decide to discard the 5♠ and draw the Q♥
My hand is 3♣, 5♦, 7♠, Q♥, K♣ for a Q high, three between Wanton.

I must decide if I am going to fold or not as it will cost me 2 chips per counterfeit to fold
after the third draw.

Draw 3:

I stand pat w/ 3♣, 5♦, 7♠, Q♥, K♣

It would cost me 2 chips per counterfeit to fold now.

Showdown:

If I lose then I must pay 4 chips for my counterfeit K♣.
If my opponent had position on me then he might stay with a draw 2 hoping that I will fold; this
wager will cost him 4chips x 2 counterfeit or 8 chips if he is wrong.

Opponent shows A♠, 2♥, 7♣, T♦, J♥ for a Ten High, 2 between Wanton

My 3 Between Wanton automatically beats his 2 Between and he pays me 4 chips for his J♥ counterfeit.

I played Bid-Limit Wanton today and It looked like this:

1 chip ante and the bid starts at 1.

Player to the left of the dealer can raise 1 making the bid 2 and the next
player can raise 2 making the bid 4 etc.

The Bid is the number of chips your opponent pays for each counterfeit card
in his hand if he folds or loses to a showdown.

To fold, you must place your hand face down in front of you with the correct payout on top of your cards.

If no player has a Wanton after showdown then the pot is split between the players.

If a hand loses to to a showdown then the cards to the left of the original are also counterfeit:

Example: If hand A♥, 2♠, 3♦. 4♣, 5♦ loses to 9♦, T♥, J♠, Q♣, K♦ (1 between vs 3 between) then the cards
to the left of the 3♦ (A♥ & 2♠) count as counterfeit cards as does the 5♦.
In a situation where a non-Wanton hand goes to showdown and loses to a Wanton then the loser has 5 counterfeits.

For the purpose of scoring, losing on a showdown looks like this:

Wanton (badugi w/ a high card counterfeit):
A♦, 2♣. 3♠, 5♥, 6♦ = A♦, 2♣. 3♠, 5♥, -1 unit
A♣, 2♦, 3♥, 4♠, 5♦ = 2♦, 3♥, 4♠, -2 units
A♥, 2♠, 3♦. 4♣, 5♦ = 3♦. 4♣, -3 units
A♠, 2♥, 3♣, 4♦, 5♦ = 4♦, -4 units
A♠, 2♥, 3♣, 5♦, 4♣ = -5 units

A losing hand:
A♠, 2♥, 5♣, T♦, 7♣ = -1 unit for the 7♣ (-5 units on showdown)
Counterfeit must be highest card.

-Wanton is heavily influenced by:

Red Dog: fitting cards between things and being punished for hitting outside of the spread

Chinese Poker: you are payed according to your opponents strength in relation to your own.

Badugi: low-ball rainbow hands and all the pain of pairs and suited cards that you don't want.
