FYI: Unlike Vegas, where the airport is a major destination for lots of airlines and is almost walking distance from the strip, the AC "International" airport is 15 miles away, and is only serviced by two airlines: AirTran and Spirit.

Ha..so how exactly does it keep the "International" distinction? Usually for small aiports in the eastern US, its actually Toronto that does give it the "International" name.
Good question, particularly since NONE of the direct destinations are international.Quote: ruascottHa..so how exactly does it keep the "International" distinction?
The two airlines have a total of NINE direct destinations. The DO have some connecting flights that go to South America and the Caribbean.

It's probably not a big deal to keep the designation, but if they do need a loophole, Detroit-Windsor is an international Metropolitan area.

It is pretty loose. I have seen airports with no commercial flights at all called "international." My guess is to be an "international" airport it merely has to have the capability for international flights. And all that takes is to be able to call US Customs for an inspection when a flight (even a 2-seat Cesna) arrives.

Very true. We are thinking about Commercial only, but I'm sure private jets can fly into AC from anywhere in the globe.

There used to be a dinky little strip, I can't even call it an airport since there were no services, right on the island. I heard they ripped it out.
Yep. It was less than a mile to the closest casino. And dinky is an understatement.Quote: AZDuffmanThere used to be a dinky little strip, I can't even call it an airport since there were no services, right on the island. I heard they ripped it out.
It's a minor-league baseball stadium now.
The new airport is 15 miles inland.

Bader Field, in the green circle, is where the old air strip used to be.
The brown line is the casino section of the boardwalk.
The putple circle is the marina area where Harrah's, Borgata and Trump Marina are.
You can still see the runways in the satellite photo:

Google's new measurement tool shows the runways to be about 2,900 and 2,500 feet!
Flying, you take a flight to Boston, then catch one of Spirit's two flights from Boston - departure at 10:50 and 17:10 arrives at 12:05 and 18:25.
Returning, there are two flights a day leaving at 10:25 and 16:50 arriving at 11:35 and 18:00 respectively. The return flight, $107.60 (which is the most expensive).
Of course, you have to get from YYZ to BOS first, but you can do that for <$400 on Air Canada or American. My advice -- catch the BoSox at Fenway for a day game, head to AC and enjoy the weekend, then fly back.
But generally the advice to take the train is valid: $10.00 each way for a two hour train ride.
Or you could just charter a plane like the guy in "Owning Mahoney."
