I'll volunteer to keep everybody who came last time up to date by private message. I'll add anyone who says they are thinking about coming, or are coming, and delete anyone who requests it.
Let's start with "where and when". Initial probing has indicated last week of September is good for some of us, including me, although I am mostly flexible for anything past Labor Day weekend. October is out for me.
How about everyone weighing in with their votes who has specific dates and places in mind. I'll withhold from voting for a specific date for now. I also am OK with having it somewhere near where we did last time, or even Cherokee NC this time. I'm voting against The Meadows, or any AC.

As to where, I prefer to rotate for this kind of thing. Rivers may or may not be out depending on football that weekend and if it is a late game for Pitt parking goes to $40 or something. That is not to say I prefer one of the WV casinos but just saying we should know before we go.
If we go to Meadows again I prefer a different off-site place for dinner or better yet on site as they have changed their dining options.
Otherwise last time went well and I will roll whatever I have banked from the slots-payback to a new high limit pool if others are up for it.
Then again, perhaps no one from the East Coast is planning to go out for that.
Quote: beachbumbabsThe only problem with the last week of September is that it's G2E in Las Vegas. I don't know who-all is headed for that, but I'm planning to go. The actual G2E dates are Sept.29-Oct.1, with some activities one day either side of that, FWIW. Sounds like the WoV dinner will be either Tue or Wed.
Then again, perhaps no one from the East Coast is planning to go out for that.
I'm for backing it up from anything near October already, so 14th through 27th25th [edit] maybe ought to be what we are thinking.
Quote: odiousgambit... or even Cherokee NC this time.
Now, if you choose that destination, I will be interested. I will be there 9/6-7, and we have plans to be in Florida for 9/23-27. I am fairly sure we will not make it back to PA any time soon -- we're in MA right now.

Again, if we can get enough wanting to go, I'm good. Your time frame works for me since Labor Day is 9/1

I think 9/6 is too soon. That is in like 2 weeks.
Quote: beachbumbabsI will definitely attend a Cherokee meet-up if it happens.
One thing that may be a big deal for some is the minimums. Does Cherokee have low mins or are they going to be $15 and higher. Cherokee now has real tables right? I know they used to have etables.
I just checked their hotel and they are booked solid for a long while on weekends.
I could do midweek myself (most weeks) but that might not work for others. We are going on the upcoming weekend because a friend is joining us. I think you must have to be Seven Stars level 38 maybe to get weekend rooms at the casino -- I've only stayed there midweek. They comp rooms for us lowlifes at partner hotels in the area.
Quote: DocCherokee has had real table games for about two years. Weekend minimums are higher than I like -- typically $15 and $25 tables for craps. I've never played any of the other games there.

that could be a breaking point for me. If I am going to travel I want to be able to play which means I am stuck at $10 min and for craps I would prefer $5 but would deal with $10.

well, in any case, I spoke too soon ... hadn't looked at my calender, duh! ... and 6th/7th is out
and as GWAE says, a bit hurried

This would kill Cherokee for me. Sorry, but I am a low roller. $10 is about the max I can handle.

Cherokee has real tables. I'd estimate 100 or more BJ, 9 craps tables, quite a few Roulette, Mississippi Stud, 3 card poker, baccarat, and a poker room. They do not have any Pai Gow games. I have not been in the poker room, so I have no idea what games they spread in there.
You basically have to call them for a room on the weekends. They keep most of the rooms blocked for gamblers on the weekends. Any Diamond holder can probably get a room without problems. I am Platinum, and the last time I tried to book a room for the upcoming weekend, I was denied a room through the reservation number. I could only get 2 out of the 3 nights I needed. So I had my casino junket agent call, and she secured a room for me for all 3 nights through the casino host interface she has.
Not available September 13-14, or October until October 25-26.
OG is out in Oct., so if Sept doesn't work, that would push it into Nov. and that possibly brings bad weather back into the picture. Even Cherokee would have potential problems, as it is in the Smoky Mountains, and they do get snow and ice out there.
i think the limits in MD are going to create an issue. Maybe one of the wva ones. Wheeling would def work and maybe bring mission out of hiding,.
Quote: GWAEhow about first weekend in November?
Oct/Nov is bad for me. Let's give Sept our best shot, if after that it ain't happening then it'll be up to others to work something up.
It also looks like there is quite a bit of concern over Cherokee NC table limits and accommodations. Maybe if somewhere else is a flop entirely, those of us who are still interested can toss it around, knowing nothing else developed.
Quote:Wheeling would def work ...
I am not opposed to Wheeling at all, I liked it there; probably a better choice than smallish Rocky Gap, another place I liked. I don't want to oversell it, Wheeling is Wheeling. Yet size, accommodations, and "niceness", modern, some good things about comps, and such are totally up to snuff IMO. No objection at all.

love to see him. Some 'splaning to do, but in no time I expect "all is forgiven" . I sure wouldnt count on an appearance by 'His Nibs'.
Funny what you find browsing sometimes. Somebody needs to find out who "Dark Flames" is or we're screwed!
SOOPOO.......... a 'maybe' but not 9-13,14
VCUSkyhawk......... any mid atlantic
GWAE ............. Wheeling [probably flexible]
Mosca................. a 'maybe', Sundays preferred
Me ................... Wheeling [but definitely flexible]
vendman1 ........ a 'maybe', flexible
Raleighcraps ....... weekday
[let me know if I left out someone's comment, it would be easy to do]
I am going to presume: keeping at the same general area as last is a good idea. And that some people would prefer Rivers or The Meadows. We just need to hear from you. I am also going to be so bold as to suggest dates, the 9/21 if a Sunday, 9/24 if during the week, to get things going. BTW the Steelers have an away game on the 21st.
I am not going to presume anyone is coming for sure till they definitely say so!
Quote: odiousgambitI think where we are is eliminating Cherokee NC for a couple of reasons, and considering mostly near where it happened last. So far [not including wishes for NC!] we have heard specifics from:

I can't drive to NC. I vote keep it local, not Meadows. Keep rotating. Saturday better than Sunday but WOV-East I was a sunday several years back and it worked fine. Steelers are just a blur to me now so either way, just that Rivers needs to be the away weekend as you have already suggested.
Maybe we should start calling this WoV WV/VA/PA as that has shown to work last time around ... September was discussed as a next time, which happens to work for me ... none of that precludes others getting together at their own times and places ... and it's pretty clear most are thinking of driving, that does draw up limits.
Let's give it a go for enough interest in the general Pittsb. area / Sept. and see what happens. How many do we need to declare it a quorum?
We need to start voting, I just want to give time here for more to declare interest first.
Quote: VCUSkyhawkNever been to any casino in that area. Any decent? What are they like?
I focus on Craps and they seem competitive in the area for that at least. Minimums tend to be reasonable and 10x odds is spreading. Havent been to Rivers Casino though.
Rivers-
Craps: During the week you can find a $5 table early in the day. They have 10x odds. Generally the tables are $10 or $15 in the evening. I was there last week on a Wednesday and they had 1 $10 table and 3 $15 tables. They have a promotion that when you shoot you give the box your players card and they keep track of how many rolls you made. If you make 60 rolls you win the bounty which starts at $500 and grows $100 every day. The dealers are generally pretty good but there are TVs surrounding the table and you will quite often see them paying attention to ESPN and talking among themselves. I have vowed never to tip again at this place since my last tip was dropped without so much as a look.
Blackjack: very rarely do you see a $5 table. If they have one it is always on a csm. $10 tables are also mostly on csm's. They have about 25 BJ tables and only 5 or 6 of them have 8 deck shoes which are always $15-$100 tables.
Food: They have a decent buffet but a little pricey at $26. The wheel house is like a sports bar and cafe mixed. I really like their food. There is a little cafe, ice cream/sandwich shop, and a Steak house. There are also a few places very close by that are bar/restaurants.
Other notes: There is also a current promotion that on Thursday nights they have a pit with $5 blackjack tables and $5 craps tables. I think it runs 5pm-2am or something like that. The casino is super busy just about every weekend and if we have the goal to play at craps together it will be tough as they get a lot of action on their craps tables.

Meadows-
Craps: I almost always see a $5 table even on Saturday nights. They have 10x odds. A few weeks back there was a $5 on a Sat. night but 3 $10 tables. I generally like their dealers, even the ones that are not real good are at least very friendly. When I tip I will even get thanked by the floor (I think they use a lot of dual rate).
Blackjack: They always have a $5 table. Sometimes it is a 6 deck shoe and sometimes it is a csm. They have a good mix of $10 and $15 games as well and again sometimes they are shoe dealt and sometimes csm dealt.
Food: They have the Carvery which is horrible. There is a decent food court and also a steak house. There is not much to eat in the surrounding areas.
Other notes: The current promotion is free drinks while playing tables. They say it is a summer promotion so I am not sure how much longer it is lasting. I will also admit that I am biased towards the Meadows out of the 3 local places because they cater to the low roller which is me. Last time some people took advantage of the webpass promotion. They still have the Webpass but the rewards are not nearly as good as they used to be.

Wheeling-
Craps: I have not played much here lately but they do have $5 tables. They are generally not busy unless it is a Saturday night.
Blackjack: They always have a $5 table.
Food: They have a food court, steak house, and cafe. The cafe is decent and I really like the steak house.
Other notes: The last 3 times I have been here the tables were basically empty. They also have dog racing. I have not been here in at least 6 months so things may have changed. Someone like MISSION could give us a little more info on this place.

I admire how you hold out hope for Mission, it tells me maybe I have gotten too pessimistic. We shall see what we shall see.
The steak house is pretty pricey, no? I don't remember the Cafe [pretty bad eh?] Kept eating at the buffet.
When I was there a couple of months ago the Craps was 10x and $5 min, a nice combination.
Could you contrast the three on carnival games available, please? UTH, 3CP, Double Draw, Hi Card Flush, etc. Thanks!

I do not play most carnival games but I can give a detailed breakdown by the weekend as I will be at the Rivers tomorrow for a little while and at the Meadows on Friday for a giveaway.
I think I could give a pretty good breakdown right now but there are a few games that have just disappeared.
Considering the single consensus, I think we should now rule out The Rivers, or speak up if you want there. This leaves Wheeling, which no one has spoken against, and The Meadows, which has had a couple of grumbles including my own. So,
*please vote between Wheeling and the Meadows, and ....
*voice also your opinion between a weekday or Saturday.
I for one would like to firm up plans
Otherwises, my preferences for Pittsburgh-area casinos are:
1/1a: Rivers & Meadows
2: Wheeling Island
Quote: teddysIs Rocky Gap still in? I'd like to go there because it's one of few casinos I've never been too.
kinda small , and the food situation baffles me. Probably not a good idea, but I hope you get there someday. Or rouse up support and we'll go!
