Hi Wizard,

Could you advise on the odds of this variant of Straight 8's in Marina Bay Sands Singapore? Details of the payout are here

So the pair bet listed is shown on this page as "Dare any pair." The WoO gives a HE of 11.25% on that one, ugh.

My math could be wrong but here is what I get for the variant of straight 8's:
Event Pays Combinations Probability Return
3 suited 8's 1000 80 0.00001596 0.015957
3 unsuited 8's 100 1944 0.00038777 0.038777
2 suited 8's 10 17280 0.00344682 0.034468
2 unsuited 8's 5 62208 0.01240854 0.062043
Pair 3 953856 0.19026434 0.570793
Loser -1 3977952 0.79347658 -0.79348
Total 5013320 1 -0.07144

Here is my table. I think I differ with endermike over what happens with a three of a kind other than eights. I assume that pays 3 to 1, as a pair.

It should be noted that six decks are assumed.

Event Pays Combinations Probability Return
Three suited eights 1,000 80 0.000016 0.015957
Three unsuited eights 100 1,944 0.000388 0.038777
Two suited eights 10 17,280 0.003447 0.034468
Two unsuited eights 5 62,208 0.012409 0.062043
Pair 3 978,144 0.195109 0.585327
All other -1 3,953,664 0.788632 -0.788632
Total 5,013,320 1.000000 -0.052060

Thanks for the analysis, folks.

They use six deck CSMs over in Singapore, and many players seem to be doing well in the short term betting on this variant. I thought it worthwhile to delve into the house edge as the casino for some reason only allows SGD100 (USD80) per bet as compared to normal betting limits of up to SGD7,500 normal bets per box . Pair payments (other than 8's) apply if the dealer's up card coincides with either one of the player's first two upcards. No special payment (other than 3-pay-1) for three of a kind though, except on 8's.

Yeah, just looked through my results. I'm pretty sure I did pair without 3 of a kind. Whoops. Take the Wizard's.
