anything over 40hrs/week = $75/hr (time and half)
anything over 60hrs = $100/hr (double time)
sun= double time, no matter how many hrs worked (as liong as you've worked at least 8hrs/day mon-sat).
1) 56hrs/week
m-f 8hrs/day = 40hrs = $2000
sat 8hrs = 600
sun 8hrs = 800
$3400 = $61/hr
2) 80 hrs/week
m-sat 12hrs/day = 2000 + 1500 + 1200
sun 8hrs = 800
$5500 = $69/hr
3) 40hrs/week
$2000 = $50/hr
Commute to/from work is 20min (each way).
you're single, no kids. You don't really need the $ but its nice. (and you have lots of free time on your hands.)
It would seem 56hrs/week is the best option??
most gain in $/hr over the base.
Which option would you pick? WHY?
edit:
You can switch between the options on a weekly basis.
Option 3 is frowned upon by mgmt. (You live in a work at will state.)
This is short term for ~3months, but can be longer if things go right. (Hopefully mgmt will start hiring people if things go right.)
If it's only for three months or so, I could handle the again, but I wouldn't want to do it for for too much longer than that.
When I was working that spell, I had no life. None at all. I came home exhausted, I ate dinner, and then it was just about time to go to sleep, to do it all over again. I was making lots of money and SAVING lots of money because I had no time to spend any of it. And at the time it was okay... I needed the money back then, but it wasn't fun.
If you really, REALLY like the work you do, that will help, of course.
I don't need the money now, so if offered to me I would only do that for a very short period of time. And then I would just say no more. I'm one who wants (no, NEEDS) my free time. I'm happy with the 40 hours I'm working now. I wouldn't even want to work 56 hours a week right now.
If you can switch between options weekly, work the 80 hours for as long as you can, and then switch to 40 or 56 until you can handle 80 again. Repeat.
doh.. should have created a poll :(

You are free to start a new thread with a poll, if you like, I'll delete this one after the other one is posted.
I've also self-PM'ed EdCollins post, in case he wants it back on the new thread.
If you make $275k/year you are paying a significantly higher percentage of your income as taxes than if you are making $100k/year.
Then it just comes down to how much you value work/life balance vs the extra money. It's a very personal decision so no one can make it for you -- not everyone is the same.

No way? Attorneys are getting by on less than 6 figures now?
There's a huge spread in salaries. There are a very few jobs that start in the $120,000+ range at the bigger firms in bigger cities. Then the bottom drops out and most law jobs for your average shmoe who graduated from a non-so-prestigious law school are in the $40,000-$50,000 range. Actually, most people from my law school class can't find a job at all. They're churning out way too many graduates for the available jobs. I wouldn't recommend it.Quote: AxiomOfChoiceNo way? A lot still do. It's just a tougher road to get there compared to years ago. My friend's son just got his degree, and he says it's really tough out there.Quote: AxiomOfChoiceAttorneys are getting by on less than 6 figures now?
Wow, didn't know it was that bad. That really sucks.Quote: teddys...most law jobs for your average shmoe who graduated from a non-so-prestigious law school are in the $40,000-$50,000 range. Actually, most people from my law school class can't find a job at all.
Then your effective rate of pay for working 60 hours a week is 7500/120 = $62.50/hour.
Indeed. Thankfully, I went to an inexpensive in-state law school. (Ohio has very good public law schools, albeit too many of them). I have a good job now which I like, and I'll be able to make back my whole three years tuition in one year if I can keep the job. The only downside is I have to live in Podunk, Ohio, which isn't really that tough to deal with.Quote: AxiomOfChoiceWow that sucks. Law school is not cheap...
Best thing about the internet is you can have contact with the outside world, even here in Clifton LOL
