Quote: FinsRuleMy parents lost heat.
Their house is now at 50 and dropping.
They won’t stay with me or my siblings, they say they are fine.
I had a running furnace. I was at 53 and dropping. It was like camping.
Got the kero heater in now. ~5min every hour, house has been 74-80 for last two days. Cost me about $1.19 so far and it'll be 50* by the new moon.
60 degrees warmer today than
3 days ago. It's melting the snow
and causing fog. A lot of the sound
is the rushing creek right up to
it's banks from all the melting
snow.
he was referring to working in the super cold temps of western Canada
I just pulled up the temps in Grande Prairie Alberta and the wind chill is MINUS 59*F
at minus 37*F a small wind of 7 mph brings it to almost 60*F below zero
even the oilpatch starts to shut down at those temps
https://weather.gc.ca/city/pages/ab-31_metric_e.html
buddy has been sending pics for weeks of them at the beach in Fort Myers where it has been
84*F the last 4 or 5 days ( currently 67*F there) at 6 am this morning
I am heading off to Detroit Metro Airport to pick him up in a bit .............
Current temp here MINUS 9*F with the windchill..... think I will park as far away from his exit door as possible let
him walk a bit this morning LOL hope he is wearing his shorts home
Wow, I guess we all have different internal thermostats, but I don't think I could ever put "mid 90's" and "perfect" in the same sentence!Quote: DRichThe weather is starting to get nice in Las Vegas. On Saturday was the first day I was able to use the pool. I think it should be perfect this weekend with temperatures in the mid 90's.

That's because you don't live here. Mid 90s with no humidity is Paradise. It's the humidity that makes it feel sticky.

brought in my bedroom air conditioner.
Got down to 35 last night and too much
air leaking around it. Now we'll probably
have an Indian Summer in Nov and I'll
be screwed.
"An Indian summer is a period of unseasonably warm, dry weather that sometimes occurs in autumn in Northern America. Indian Summer can be defined as any spell of warm, quiet, hazy weather that may occur in October or November. It is usually described as occurring after a killing frost."
The killer frost has to occur first, we
haven't had it yet.

I think I just finished today after ~10 straight days of full day hammering. Garage gutted and cleaned, boat winterized and sheltered, plants chopped, pond cleared, windows washed, vehicle maintained, tanks sanitized, gutters emptied, windows fastened... I'm battened down for the beating already. T'ain't gonna be no Indian Summer this year.

You did more this week than I have done around the house in 30 years.

You've no weather and a dearth of deciduous detritus. Flick on the pool heater and winter's sorted.

Yes, but I have to wait for the yard guy to come clean the yard, the pool guy to come clean the pool, and the pooper scooper guy to come get the dog dirt before I can turn on the heater and enjoy the pool and yard.

Wow, that's cold! At least when it is -40° C, it makes the math real easy to convert to °F!Quote: coilmanIs there a Poker game this week in Dawson City YT?

My favorite part of that weather report:
Quote: weather.gc.caCondition: Not observed
It's like they are saying, "We're not going outside. We're not even going to look outside to see what the weather is like!"
Stay warm, coilman. I'll see what I can do to send some of our unseasonably warm 80° F weather your way.
Quote: SOOPOO51 now here in Buffalo. And sunny, too. If it wasn't so wet I'd go golfing! Will be down to the 20's in a few days....
Looking at the next 2 weeks, very
average temps in the high 20's low
30's.
This for us has been a nothing winter.
Almost no snow or below normal temps.
Fine with me. Only 6 weeks till March
and it's over.
Quote: tringlomaneBut we are creating much more CO2 than water vapor relative to the current amounts in the atmosphere through industrial processes.
Water vapor is in the air at an average abundance of 4.0% but that abundance varies quite a bit both in time and, of course, by region. CO2 has risen from an atmospheric abundance of about 0.1% to 0.18%, for an abundance gain of +0.08%. Of course, there are enormous quantities of water on earth, and how temperature rise affects atmospheric water vapor is a HUGE deal, because water vapor is also a climate change vapor, just like CO2.
The most immediate actions should be to stop clearing forested land and start planting trees all around the world. Photosynthesis is the only practical way to remove CO2 from the atmospheric (and convert it to carbon.) The Amazon jungle used to be the lungs of the Earth's biosphere -converting CO2 to oxygen. The South Americans continue to strip it away.
BTW, I was an official reviewer for the U.S. government of the U.N. IPCC report on Climate Change (2005?). I know something about this subject! (Or at least I used to.)
Quote: TigerWuFinally got our first snow of the winter. Maybe half an inch, tops. Probably be melted by tomorrow. So far it feels like a warmer than average winter, but we'll see come February.
Every year seems to get colder to me. Of course, I am getting older and becoming a miserable person.
on Feb 29th. Earliest Spring
in more than a decade. Winter
is over weatherwise. It's the
smallest snowpack in 16 years
nationwide. Following last
year when it was one of the
biggest. Ski resorts in the
Rockies were open on the 4th
of July last year.
You do need winter the curb down disease,, hey babe why this is happening with the Coronavirus.
As i recall you do a good bit of rural driving seeking out small casinos and bars with older style slot machines, so yes I would agree you need snow tires irrespective of actual or expected conditions, just as you need a blanket, water and survival bar in the car as well despite there being warm weather.Quote: onenickelmiracleIf you're a man and you're going to just drive out there no matter what you need them.

No that's not me. I just have no fear rain or snow, too many times I'm driving as fast as it seems safe losing control every 10 minutes and seeing 5 cars off the road, I'll never let that be me. The last time I almost went into a ditch and some pine trees before gaining control back, and the time before that, I couldn't get up a steep icy hill and it was a nightmare. Thank you google maps for that, I knew it was wrong making that turn.

Why not just avoid all of that and live some place where it doesn't snow?

I've been trying to talk my wife into that for years. She HATES winter, but apparently she hates the thought of moving more than that.

Clearly you are valuing your wife higher than that of avoiding cold. You may want to re-evaluate your choice.

Awesome, joyous scene
The last time it snowed in CT after May 1st was May of 1977 (I witnessed this in Danbury CT) I believe also on the 9th. Nine months later was the Blizzard of '78. NOT a good omen. Gettin too old for 30" snow storms ;o)

Bring on the Vegas heat for the next 5-6 months.

My wife has been feverishly looking at homes in both Naples and The Villages. Younger daughter goes to college in the fall.... It may happen!
Evidently, this is insect migration season as of Monday we had a half dozen African Bee swarms, and this weekend we have thousands, or tens of thousands, of very large moths.

African bees? That's so yesterday! Call me when you have Murder Hornets.
My son is the moth expert. Post a picture and he will give you a detailed analysis.......
I'm grumpy. It just stopped SNOWING. Up to a balmy 39 degrees now.....
