In a game like baccarat where there are no decisions the player can make that will effect the outcome (unlike blackjack) what is the reason the average hold percentage is so much higher then the house edge?
Is it due to most players betting inproportionate to their bankroll and losing it all when they hit a bad run/ but when winning will continue to play and give winnings back?

Hold is not a sole function of house edge. Hold is also function of how long you play with your initial buy-in. In baccarat, players likely play through their buy-ins longer than in blackjack; therefore, they recoup less of their buy-in on average when they quit.
