So the Vegas foreclosure story is complete now. Even Mr Las Vegas falls 'victim'.
for 40 years, you'd think he would at least have
his home paid for. Is he Gay? Not that there's
anything wrong with that..

His bio says he is married to his second wife and has a minor child (daughter). But, Bob, I am just curious as to where the 'gay' question came from and what difference it would make? I guess I can understand why someone might think that. He IS a little bit flamboyant. lol
I think they are all going to court over the new house not getting built, and the tourist attraction not getting developed.
Did the "For Sale" sign specifically mention the Newton estate, or could it have been for the neighbors? Their place takes up a huge block of property.

Exactamundo.
Quote: AyecarumbaI don't think he was foreclosed on. He and his wife sold the Shenadoah estate to an investment group with plans to turn it into a tourist attraction, and the current mansion on the property into a museum. The investment company was supposed to build them a new home on the property.

The sign doesn't specify anything, nor does it mention foreclosure. I apologize. That was speculation on my part when I saw the sign, based on the events of last summer, when the sheriff's dept tried to serve foreclosure papers.
However, I am now reading the story in the review journal today which says the sale was approved as part of a bankruptcy hearing last week. Wayne Newton is appealing that decision. So, I guess, not foreclosure as I stated, but along the same lines.

Thanks for the link. Very sad. Maybe Wayne will have to move to Chicago and live with the Griswolds... or out to the desert to live with Cousin Eddie...
The mansion and grounds were actually used for scenes in the film, "Vegas Vacation".
Quote: EvenBobDoes Wayne still have his jet in his yard so they can't repo it?
Yes, you can still see the jet above the wall. I am trying to figure out just when Mr Newton bought that property. I did see a reference about some rose bushes on the property which were planted in 1965 in reference to one of his songs, so I am assuming he has owned it at least since then. Way before my time. Way before I was even born, but I can't help but think that in 1965, Pecos and Sunset was not the major intersection that it is today with strip malls and businesses. Probably was out in the middle of nowhere back then.
Quote: kewljI remember when the sheriffs dept showed up last summer with foreclosure papers and were met at the gate by Wayne Newton's private security who refused to allow the sheriffs dept on the property. I never quite understood how that worked. I guess one of the perks of being 'Mr Las Vegas', more powerful than the sheriffs dept.
I can see it happening in a certain way. First, when Wayne Newton performs at a casino the check probably isn't cut to him but instead to say "Wayne Newton Holdings." The house may be owned the same way. Then if they come to serve papers they may be politely told that to serve the corporation they need to do so at "X" where the corporate offices or officers are located.
I used to work at a company where we were instructed to do just that. Now, the sheriff could say, "tough" and serve you anyways. I had that happen once--they served me with papers that were for a former tenant of the office! I just gave them to my boss and informed him what happened, said do with it what he wanted. He was an attorney so I figured he could get in some kind of trouble if he knowingly ignored them and didn't call someone.
Apparently, the 36 acre lot includes a runway with jumbo jet terminal.
Maybe the runway can be converted into a drag strip?
Well, this has to be the place from what you guys have said. Kind of like how Graceland has been completely built in. And there's the jet. But there's no way in hell that jet landed on the property unless they've completely landscaped. Maybe he got a special permit to land on a street? I guess more likely they trucked it in there somehow.

If I remember correctly, about 3 years ago the plane was shipped to Las Vegas in many parts and reassembled in his back yard.
According to Flightaware the last flight was in 2005 to Pontiac Michigan. I believe that is where he had it shipped from back to Las Vegas.

I think it was shipped without the wings and they
were reattached to prevent it being repossessed.
