First encounter with a casino girl

Wednesday night at Atlantis, at the UTH table when I had a decent stack of greens and blacks, a guy sat down next to me with a stack of greens, and blacks... and purples, and oranges. He hit a straight on his first hand, from something like 5-9 in the hole, and we were whooping and fist bumping, and a pretty girl with a low cut dress sidled in behind him and me, more engaging him of course, speaking in Spanish and broken English: "Yo le traerá suerte... luck. I make you lucky." He picked up a couple drinks for her, and he hit some nice hands, big ones like flushes and full houses, betting blacks. And I felt something bumping against me. And in the moment I looked around, she was staring in a different direction. And I looked at the guy next to me, and he grinned and shook his head; he'd felt it too. After about 15 minutes, she saw that she wasn't getting anywhere, so she wandered away. The other guy said to me that he wasn't having any of it; he'd had a friend rolled and murdered that way, about 10 years ago in AC. He asked me if I'd felt the leg bumps, and he said he felt for his wallet; so had I, as a matter of fact, I had put my hand on my wallet when I felt the bump. He colored up and went to play something else.

She came back a couple minutes later with a $25 chip, and a pretty friend, and, not seeing the other guy, said something to me that I didn't hear too well, but I took to mean, "Will you give me some money to bet?" And I looked at her and said, "No, I'm not going to give you any money." And she said something along the lines of, "No, no, I want you to show me how to play the game." Of course $25 doesn't get you very far at a $10 UTH table. So everyone sighed and tried to show her that she couldn't play the Trips bet because she wouldn't have any money to raise... and after several tries, she walked off in a huff, with an "OK, I no play thees game!"

At that point, everyone sort of chuckled, and the dealer said that she knew how to play the game, she just wanted someone else to put up the $5, either because she was pretty (in a hookery way) or out of exasperation to get the game going, and when it didn't happen she flounced out to find a different mark.

I was interested in the encounter, to a point. She was young, early 20s, and pretty if you didn't look right at her, with soft features and smooth skin; if you looked right into her eyes, you could see the hardness starting to take hold around the edges of her face. I've never encountered the type; I rarely play that late into the night (between 1 and 2 AM), or sit next to someone with that big a bankroll who gives off "mark" signals. Wizard, I didn't do your thing where you ask a trivia question because I just wasn't into it that way at that time; the vibe was off, it had a bad feel to it all. Everyone wanted her to go away, and if I'd have put up the money it would have interrupted a hot table.

There is a big difference between a young woman offering her company, her time and the eventual use of her body... and a woman who is a baited hook trolling for bites. Her eyes rove constantly looking for marks and looking for threats. She probably had backup handy. She probably had a Mickey Finn ready to go in her purse. If she get to your room that's fine, if not, she will spike your drink and as you get a bit fuzzy she will guide take you to her room or to the parking lot: either way, her boyfriend is there waiting.

This kind of girl is known as a "chip hustler." She could make much more as a prostitute but she doesn't want to get busted. I assume you mean the Atlantis in Reno. In Nevada, prostitution is illegal in the cities but is legal in some outlying areas. The girls don't come into town except to march in parades. What amazes me more is that any guys fall for this kind of thing. Anyone over the age of 25 should know better, to those under we all have a sort of manly duty to say, "Hey, you are not that charming, good looking, or rich."

Good post. It was interesting even tho I have seen this many times. My GF can "COUNT" cards very well, quicker then I, and knows 99% basic strategy and a few count changes but always wants conformation. She understands big counts are defiantly positive EV. She has not learned all the nuances. She can't stomach big bets. While most people remember winning and not losing, she only remembers if we lose she would never play alone, she could give or take BJ.

In the past we would get all dressed up and go out for a nice dinner or big concert at the casino. After dinner we would often play BJ, she would count cards while mostly flat betting the table min, sometimes she would just sit at the open spot next to me. Her leg would bump my leg indicating the count , I would play, drink, chat, even leave the table when the count was real bad, I put on an act while spreading big.

I cant tell you how many times, Guys (one time a girl) would Just start putting out $25-$100 bets for her, letting her keep half of any winnings. She would look at me, as if to ask me if that's ok. Asked if it is OK? Ugh, should have suggested the two of you come back more often and run with it.

It seems to me that if a casino catches / knows someone is doing this, they should be immediately 86'ed.

Whether or not it is technically illegal, it is not good for the casino, unless the dealers are "in on it."

It was Atlantis Paradise Island, in The Bahamas. I got the feeling that it didn't matter to her whether she was chip hustling or more.

I don't actually spend much time looking at the working girls in casinos, I'm almost always with my wife. The last time we were at Borgata, though, we were with my sister and her husband, and he started pointing out the hookers, and then I saw them everywhere, it was obvious: the ones who are dressed for night clubs plus a little more (or less, depending on how you're using your words) among the people dressed for gaming. He works in the gaming industry, and had just read an article about casinos that were more friendly toward that action, and Borgata was one mentioned.

So what are the rules/laws in the Bahamas now? Decades ago, locals were not admitted to the casinos except for the employees. Bahamians were not allowed to gamble there. Has that changed? Do you think she was local? Everyone I have seen playing in Atlantis looks pretty much like a tourist.

Speaking only about Panama, the casinos seemed to turn a blind eye to it. The Veneto, the most infamous casino in Panama City is infested with prostitutes so if anything some chip leeches class up the place a bit.

It seems to me that if a casino catches / knows someone is doing this, they should be immediately 86'ed.

Whether or not it is technically illegal, it is not good for the casino, unless the dealers are "in on it."

To this day I can see the casino turning a blind eye. I used to walk before work and the Rivers Casino was my end point. I would walk in, walk thru and cool off, then head back to town. One day I was there very early, 7:30ish. There were probably more dealers than players. Woman panhandles me. I actually told the security guard. He asked *me* to *bring her over.* I told him no, but it was a middle aged black female and there cant' be many to narrow it down, just check the tape.

If it isn't directly affecting the drop and hold they will not care much at all. If it is a hot woman they probably want them around.

Doc, MrV, I have no idea why they didn't act. My guess would be that to some degree it isn't actually bad for business to have the vice where it can be monitored, as opposed to forcing it into the darkness where it can't be. I would guess that the girl was local, not a tourist. That was over a year ago now, so things are getting hazy.

I have been approached, and seen other players approached, many times in Biloxi. The only place it was more overt was at the Rio.
