These types of suits are fairly common. I participated in one a few years ago. A small company had created a synthetic glass that was super-strong and the idea was to license it to Apple and other cell phone companies. It had a nice ride going from under a dollar to about fifteen but Apple turned them down, choosing to develop their own. Management hid the bad news until they could sell most of their holdings and the stock went down to the point of being delisted. I'd bought a hundred shares at under $1 and another 500 shares at about $5 so I lost about three grand on the deal. Signed up for some class action lawsuit and about two years later got a settlement of fewer than two hundred dollars. A few months later I got a second check for under three dollars.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.
