He moved to another sector and drew his gun on an unarmed guard before an armed guard shot him.
There was a shooting at Wild West this week that is also not getting much coverage.

Strange I haven't heard about this story before. If this account is accurate, I have no sympathy for the deceased and praise GVR security for keeping their property safe.
Edit: For an article at the LVRJ about it -- Las Vegas man ID’d as gunman shot by casino security guards.

I think it's best to wait for the investigation.
Can a person with a concealed permit carry in a casino?
I'm not very familiar with GVR. Is much of their security armed? I'd like to know the background of the shooter.

That's why I wrote, "if this account is accurate."

Up to the policy of the casino, and I think just about all of them prohibit concealed weapons. You see such signs on or near the doors often.

I never paid much attention to it, but think I've seen guards with side arms at other casinos. I rarely make it out to the GVR. It makes me feel safer knowing that casino guards are armed and know how to use their weapons properly.

Signs do not have the force of law in private buildings. That includes casinos. Just another case of casinos trying to make you do things they can't. Only in public buildings with signs is it illegal to carry. You can also open carry in a casino. I wouldn't advise that though. Might wind up like this guy.
You can also conceal carry in bars as long as you're blood alcohol level does not exceed .10
Those security guards might want to hope there are witnesses and tapes to back up their accounts.
I was at Emerald Island last year when two plainclothes guys took down someone in the parking lot, but when I asked about it, they were Henderson cops who responded to a call about the guy trying to open car doors.
I'm amazed how little visible security most Vegas casinos have. I have no problem with armed guards, if they are properly trained. Hopefully, the standards for armed security are tighter than the uniformed guys who stand around.
Shannon Howell, 53, of Las Vegas died from several gunshot wounds, the coroner said Thursday
Officers responded about 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to Henderson police spokesperson Katrina Rothmeyer, to the property near the 215 Beltway and Green Valley Ranch.
The shooting happened in the hotel lobby. Police said three security guards confronted the suspect, Howell. Two of the security guards were armed.
"A verbal exchange took place. It's reported that the male produced a handgun," said Lt. Kirk Moore with the Henderson Police Department.
At least two tv networks are saying he had a suicide note on him, and released an old mug shot of him.
all security is meant to be unseen but casinos always want to avoid headlines. that is why a person in the casino can go up to any English speaking employee and get an immediate security escort. no charge, no minimum number of chips or anything. escorted to your room.finr. to the edge of their property, fine. into a taxicab at their expense, fine. cabdrivers don't like but the apron manager will let them back in promptly after forcing the cabbie to pull up away from the crowds.
some guards have fake guns some have concealed guns.
just too much money and alcohol around not to have something more than some yokel wearing a seersucker vest.

I'll just say that casinos can make and enforce their own rules.

I'm sure security cameras caught it from a number of angles. I am willing to wager that no criminal charges are pressed against the guards, knowing what little I do at this point.

I'm pretty sure there is a higher level of certification required for a guard to carry a firearm. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I made a secondary post pointing out they can ask you to leave.
I hope they have it all clearly on tape. I'm leaning towards justified at this point myself. The longer it takes to make an official statement to that effect the more likely it was not justified. One can only speculate.
The training requirements for armed security are actually pretty lax. Pass a security guard exam and take a firearms class similar to the qualifications to get a CCW. Pay a fee and get your card for 5 years.
If so, all bets are off and I have no problem with them taking action.
I just want to make sure the reports are correct and there is overwhelming VIDEO evidence that he actually pulled his gun.
If, in fact, he had a suiside note on him, I have to think he pulled his gun in hopes of getting Shot.
I wonder how much money he lost at that location? I have a feeling we won't get that information.
There should therefore be irrefutable evidence as to what actions the dead man took leading to his demise.

I'm sure the property would like to clear itself ASAP. Hopefully the police investigators have the same sense of urgency. If it's clear, should be Monday at the latest to issue an official statement.
