So Planet Hollywood will be the first resort with gaming to go nonsmoking in Vegas when they re-open. About freaking time and I hope others will follow.

Most likely once things return to normal, they will revert. A casino was non-smoking per the health department for a very long time a built a clientele of non-smokers along with smokers in an "outdoor pavillion". The day they got the green light to allow smoking on the floor, they went for it and in my opinion, completely abandoned the non-smoking base. The non-smoking section went from 75% of floor to about 10%. Depends on how long there is a "threat" to health.

Masks aren’t required. Encouraged, but entirely optional. I suspect the majority of those on the casino floors without a mask, at least initially, will be the chimney stacks and fog machines.

The time has come...no offense to those who continue a really, really bad habit and the Asian whales who the casinos covet. It’s an outdoor vice, frankly....taverns and smoke shops excluded.

I think it's only a matter of time before smoking is banned in all Casinos. Smoking is banned in most places anyways.

If others follow it will probably be to bankruptcy. The only way non-smoking works is if it is mandated. Then a lot of the casinos will close too.

In properties that I have worked with that were forced to go non-smoking business dropped almost 60% and still hasn't come back.

I believe it is mandated there. If you give people a choice the smoking casinos will prosper and the non-smoking will either fail or go back to allow smoking,

It will be interesting to see how this will affect visitors. People may be more accepting on a non-smoking casino during this COVID-19 time.

I have always said a fair compromise is separate smoking and non smoking areas either 50-50 or 75-25 (AC Model).

In Pittsburgh the casino is pretty much the only indoor place you can smoke. Lots of non-smoking areas. In fact I think most areas. I only played slots when I was secret shopping the place so never had a problem there. As long as the poker room, sports book, buffet, and at least one bar are NS I do fine.

I will DEFINITELY choose a non-smoking casino in Vegas if there is one. Give me 11-10 Blackjack, Triple zero roulette, no odds on craps, backroom me daily, $40 a day for parking, $125 a day resort fees, no comps, make me wear a spacesuit, have trans-sexual hookers bug me while I'm gambling.... with smoking prohibited it seems like a fair price to pay.

On a serious note, in my area the American (Seneca Niagara) is smoking, while the Canadian (Fallsview, Casino Niagara) are non-smoking. I am SURE that smokers from Canada cross the border to Seneca Niagara, and non-smokers go the other way. So in Seneca Niagara, the proportion of smokers is ridiculously high! Sadly for me, I hate the border crossing, as the occasional long wait to get back into the USA has me putting up with the smoke plume....

But both smoking and non-smoking seem to be surviving well, pre COVID-19.

Everyone is a winner at Silver City! This was the small casino where my wife and I played our first blackjack in the 80s. I think that they had $3 minimums.

Any smoking ban has to be done like it’s done in states where you can’t smoke in the casino...state wide. If we made a decision to ban smoking in movie theaters, restaurants, retail stores, offices and just about any other public indoor and outdoor venue....because of health, safety and not breathing second hand smoke or having to dump all your clothes in the washing machine immediately afterwards...there is zero reason why casinos should be exempt.

It’s a tired cliche of “gambling and smoking go hand in hand” or other tired arguments. We said no in every other place....based on the concern for health of the population.

There’s no reason anyone should have to breath in smoke.

This entire fiasco of “casino guidelines for the well being of our customers“ is a complete farce....because they don’t want to address or even discuss or mention or otherwise consider the damn 800 lb. gorilla in the room as it relates to the potential spread of corona thru vaping and smoking.

From Sisolak to gaming control to the casino bosses...I’d have an ounce of respect for them if they would just come out and say “this isn’t a well being or safety or health consideration...it’s 100% business”.

They all know this.

The Atlantis Casino in Reno has been a nonsmoking Race and Sportsbook for a few years now. Only one in Reno thats nonsmoking and they are always packed until Covid hit. So I believe a casino can be successful being nonsmoking. Got to start somewhere. Credit to the Atlantis

Nevada tried non-smoking in the bars for a year or two and that failed. Now if you restrict patrons to age 21 or over you can have smoking.

The first thing I noticed about non-smoking areas of casinos when they first started, was the limited option of games made it undesirable. Only as the non-smoking areas become dominant will that change.

Does anyone know the ratio of smoking to non-smoking hotel rooms casinos have today? If that is changing the trend is going to change the casino floor as well.

In my experience it's not many, and not in proportion to the number of smokers. I'd guess less than 16%, but people smoke in non-smoking rooms all the time and get away with it.
