https://www.reviewjournal.com/business/casinos-gaming/high-roller-offers-500k-reward-says-he-was-drugged-while-gambling-2920452/

From what I gather the high roller is claiming the drink served to him at the MGM mansion was spiked with Ketamine. The implication being it was done by MGM to coerce him to extend his credit line.

To me this seems highly implausible, it’s more likely the guy partied too hard and took the ketamine himself, and now regrets the 3.5M losses and is trying to get it back in court with this accusation.

I can't read the article, it's behind a paywall. But how do you stay awake to play games if you've been knocked into nap land by drugs?

This is almost what Terrance Watanabe tried to sue Caesar's for; it wasn't drugging, but just giving him too much alcohol. He sort of "won" the case and Caesar's was fined a measly $300k or so but Watanabe didn't get anything.

My area of expertise. Ketamine has been used as an anesthetic for decades. There are a bunch of medical reasons that (rarely) it is preferable to propofol, Pentothal, inhaled anesthetic, etc….
I’ve used high doses for a fully asleep patient, but more often lower doses for various levels of sedation and analgesia. It was used frequently for severe burn patients, as it is a potent analgesic. But some use very low doses as a drug of abuse.

Story that sticks with me from 35 years ago. Female doctor training me. She needed emergency C Section and some were done with low doses of ketamine in addition to a bunch of other drugs. She described nightmares so real and horrific that she said she would never administer ketamine again and would always use an alternative.

There are a number of lodges in New Mexico where you can go for ketamine therapy. Supposedly, a lot of the top execs at a number of companies undergo it on a regular basis. Elon Musk is a believer.

I went to an amusement park and had a $2 Hawaiian Punch and was knocked out for 6 hours. I came back the next year and used a vending machine this time so a vendor wouldn't spike my drink and it happened again.

Is there a difference between the effects of Ketamine was taken orally, intravenously, or insufflation (most common for recreational use)?

I’d never do drugs, but a friend told me about a time they took a fairly large dose of pharmaceutical ketamine orally about 10 years ago. They said it was extremely dissociative, which is hard to describe without experiencing first hand. They didn’t exactly have a nightmare type or anything outright scary, but it was more the feeling that they complete broke away from reality and things would never get back to normal. Watching TV, they said every pixel on the TV was a crystal like pattern made of infinite amounts of the same crystal shape. They also had out of body visions where they saw themselves like they were looking at a security camera in the corner of the room.

I half think doctors should be subject to certain medicines they administer, similar to how police officers are tazed and pepper sprayed during training.

My friend said that while it wasn’t a horrible experience, but it wasn’t exactly great either and they never tried it again. I’ve heard smaller doses via the nose are more recreational than reality shattering.

Difference of route of administration is just a dose issue. I only gave it IV if it was possible to have an IV before the patient was asleep. In the combative patient, who no IV was able to be placed safely, we would ‘dart’ the patient( intramuscular injection) with, say, 500 mg of ketamine. If I had an IV I could give a far smaller dose (120 mg) to get the same result. I never gave it orally since absorption there would be quite variable, and harder to administer to a combative patient. Apparently it’s more common in pediatric patients, which I didn’t take care of.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Elon Musk believes a lot of questionable things.

There’s an FDA approved treatment plan where you can do it all at home -

Where was the drink he claims was spiked mixed?

If the area where it was mixed (presumably by a bar tender) is in view of The Eye, might this not be evidence, one way or the other?

But then how long would MGM have retained the image before wiiping it?

I think it's far more likely some prostitute saw him high rolling and tried to drug him.

Assume the only drinks he got were in the private salon; would MGM allow whores to bother their custormers there?

Plus the guy had his girl friend with him.

I cannot imagine his GF would let a "pro" get near her man but hey, it's a wicked world.
