The rooms in both cases were nice. Not fancy, but not run down either. All the staff that I had contact with were very nice. The poker room is small, but has a 3 or 4 tournaments every day. If you want to waste some time during the day playing poker, it's fine. If you want some serious play go elsewhere. Sahara and Planet Hollywood Tournaments are a much better value, but if you like to stay and play in one casino, the Flamingo is a pretty good choice.
I'd give it 7 out of 10 stars.
Problems at the Flamingo.
On my last trip I stayed at three different hotels. The Aria, Hilton, and the Flamingo.
Two of them were good, as usual. (Although the closing of the buffet at the Hilton in the middle of the day doesn't make sense, but it's the Hilton and it's poorly managed, so what do you expect.)
My big problem was with the Flamingo. It's turning into a toilet and is smelling like it as well. Basically, it's turning into The Imperial Palace.
My first room was on the older side of the hotel, since the new side was full. When I first entered the room, the smell of air freshener was extremely strong and smelled like the kind of freshener that's used in a cheap gas station somewhere in a LV 7-11 men's restroom. (Lysol with Cinnamon?) I figured the smell would largely dissipate, while I played during the day and the first part of the night. However, later that night, when I returned to the room, the smell was still there. As a matter of fact, it seemed stronger. Every time the fan came on with the air conditioner, it was even more robust. In my room's restroom it was so strong that my eyes would water when I was in there. Finally, I called down to the front desk and they sent someone up. (Meanwhile, I attempted to put on my goggles and tried to put a snorkel out the window so I could breath, but the window wouldn't open. :) The hotel associate concurred that the smell was strong, but that it was like that in many of the rooms on that side of the hotel. After leaving the room, my clothing smelled like I had worn the airfreshener as a cologne.
The front desk kindly arranged for another room, so I changed rooms at 3:00 am. This time they put me in a meeting room. Inside the room was a large conference table with roughly eight chairs around it and a fold down bed. The room didn't smell, but I could feel every spring and wire in the bed. The area behind the bed was beat up and full of debris, dirt, etc. The bed was also completely worn out as though it was an original bed from the 1940s. When the air conditioning turned on, it would make a horrible sound as though the compressor didn't want to turn and as though a small animal was being electrocuted each time.
Despite the horrendous shape of the rooms, the staff was very friendly, but I will never stay here again.
The pool, location and monorail stop were the only reasons we stayed there. There were no big glaring problems, like smells or noise. But it was in a bit of disrepair, with paint flaking, rusting fixtures, and crown molding falling off. Nothing major, but in need of a renovation.
I would still recommend it for the pool. We live in a part of the country without a lot of sunny days, and no water parks within driving distance. But we would never stay there in the winter.
Someone just had a Flaming O "Go Room" experience that involved a tv-remote without batteries, an uncleaned toilet and a smear of blood on a bathroom towel. The person who encountered the unhygienic Go Room at the Flaming O had previously stayed at The Sahara where she found the rooms to be spotless.Quote: dudestupidThe room quality didn't leave a good impression, but we didn't spend a lot of time in the room. (Wake up, pool, shower, go out, and return intoxicated in the evening)
The Sahara is closing, the Flamingo is not.
room FILTHY FILTHY FILTHY DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT WORTH IT
low mirrored ceilings, the terrible smoke, the crowding,
and the felt on the roulette tables were almost growing
moss on them from all the drink spills. The whole place
smells and screams 1977.
The thing is the location is among the best there is. I'm looking ahead to a Fall 2013 trip and in light of the fact that they've completed their renovations (at least I think so), I'm considering giving them another shot.
Has anyone stayed in 2012? Are the new FAB rooms adequate? Have the casino, poker room, and sports book areas been freshened up? Would you recommend another shot?

I think the poker room has "been freshened up" to the point that it is closed. Thread link.
That thread is about the Tropicana.
The poker room at the Flamingo is very much alive.
Quote: DocSorry. The post at the top of this page is about the Trop, and that is where I started reading this morning.
That confused me too, especially since the title is just "hotel." I guess I never noticed it before, but that appears to be the case for ALL of the sticky threads about the hotel at a given casino. I wonder if they could be renamed in a "Property - hotel" format so that it makes more sense when we click through from the recent threads list.
The rooms are terrible, the room service food is terrible, the place is old and resembles the Imperial Palace. In fact, I think I would rather stay at the Imperial Palace rather than Flamingo. For those of you not part of Total Rewards-you can't beat the cheap room rates. With that said, the only nice place Caesars Inc. has to offer is Caesars Palace and Planet Hollywood. I am strongly considering making the switch to Mlife...probably when the new year rolls around.

+1, and Horseshoe where they've got 'em.

I recommend it. It's cheap and in the center of the strip. You're not going to find a bargain like the Flamingo anywhere else.
Quote: s2dbakerI have to defend the Flamingo here. I've stayed at the Flamingo the last three or four Super Bowl trips that I've done. I haven't had a negative experience. A room is a room and if it's free, it's for me. Last February, I actually paid for the room for five nights because I didn't want to feel obligated to gamble (I gambled there anyway) and I got a Fab Deluxe View Room. The view really is pretty spectacular.

I agree with this sentiment. Recently I've been lucky enough to get the GO rooms comped, but I've stayed in the Fab rooms before I played as much and not been disappointed for the price (free). I don't think I've actually ever stayed in one of the "classic" rooms - don't remember it even coming up in the reservation system.
When we were there they were working on the sports book. Hoping that and the poker room are a few notches higher than they were.
I liked the staff and it was a great stay ! Fair table limits , enough open, great drink service and smiling faces (also at Cromwell where I played a lot )
