I plan to attend a convention at Rio and would like to save a hundred dollars a night by staying a few minutes away. However, I have never been to this area before, so I have two questions about staying at Gold Coast:

- Palms is literally across the street, however, it seems like the walk to Rio may not always be safe. How does this walk get at 2-3am?

- Getting to the strip... I see that there is a shuttle that does not run 24/7 and can get busy. How long does it take to walk to the strip (Caesar's strip entrance) from the Gold Coast?

Thanks!

Gold Coast is a nice, much cheaper property than Rio. I would stay there anytime!

I would not walk from either Rio or Gold Coast to the Strip. Cab it or take the Harrah's shuttle.

Walking will take more like 30 minutes and isn't the safest with traffic on Flamingo being crazy.

Have a good time!

There's no problem at all with the walks between Rio, Palms, and Gold Coast. It's well lit, well traveled, and well signed (crosswalks, etc)

You can walk to the strip from Gold Coast or Rio. It's about 15 minutes to Caesars from Rio, maybe 5 minutes more from Gold Coast. Some of that walk is sketchy, especially at night. You're either on a very poorly lit little trail, or you're right on Flamingo (they were working on the trail part last year...that may be better now). It's probably better to take the shuttle from Gold Coast or Rio, or cab it. Have you taken the shuttle in AC? The one in Vegas is pretty similarly sized, but demand is less elastic. I've never seen the one in Vegas empty, and Ive never failed to get on, either.

Last time I stayed at the Rio, we went to the Gold Coast every day. You walk across a not busy side street and then you are into the Gold Coast Garage. Go a few hundred feet through that to the casino. We made this walk at 1-2 am without any problems. The Palms is a couple hundred feet farther away from the Rio but still basically across from the Gold Coast. You do have to try & cross West Flamingo though, which is a much busier street.

As always, keeping your eyes open & being aware of your situation will help keep you safe.

For 9 months in 2011, I lived in an apartment directly across Flamingo from the Palms, adjacent to Gold Coast. I walked to the Rio to play poker at all hours of the day and night during that entire time....no problems. Bums asking for money, sure. Crime, not really. Don't walk to the strip, take the free shuttle from either GC (to Orleans and Bills and back yes I know Bills isn't there anymore) or from Rio (one to Harrahs and another to Ballys)

Others have said the same thing, but I had no discomfort walking by myself back and forth from the Rio to the Gold Coast. I think you will be fine staying there. As they said, take the shuttles to the Strip.

In January I stayed at Rio and Gold Coast..... Had no issues walking between the Rio/GC/Palms... I also walked to the strip multiple times, I take Flamingo Road.... I felt safe.... But I don't think I did the walk outside of 7am - 7pm....

I agree with Soopoo. During day light you should see no issues. But if you are alone and after dark you have to ask yourself if your head is worth $10? The Gold Coast shuttles runs until midnight from behind Ballys back by the Johnny Rockets. The Ceasars shuttle runs from the side door of Ballys. If you are on the strip after midnight and need to get back to Gold Coast catch a cab from the North Valet entrance at the Bellagio it will cost you $10.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input. It seems like there's enough around Gold Coast to keep me entertained other than the convention at the Rio, and I have no problem paying $10-20 for a cab after spending a day on the strip if it gets too late.

Another option is the double-decker city bus that runs up and down Flamingo. There is a stop on the south side of Caesars. I would print out the schedule to refer to. At least that would be another option for you at night.

In addition to the bus (route 202) that others have mentioned, there is also the free shuttle between Bally's and the Rio. AFAIK, you don't have to be staying at a Caesar's hotel to be able to use it, although I have heard it does get crowded to the point where you have to wait for the next one on occasion, and they're 30 minutes apart.

Also, if you want to walk to the Palms, the Gold Coast is closer to it than the Rio is.

These three are all a very easy walk from each other. Flamingo is busy but they are marked pedestrian cross walks ( with the push a button for a walk signal thingies ) to get to the Palms side.

There was good drink service at Palms, a very reasonably priced buffet for card members, and good VP paytables there. So when we stayed at RIO last week, I did most of my playing at PALMS.
