Quote: billryanThat's a real shame. hopefully it gets rebuilt.

There’s a statement from owners they plan to rebuild in the article. I guess it burned down in the early ‘60’s and was rebuilt as well. Well, it did not spread to any nearby homes or create a forest fire, and perhaps a facelift would be ok.
I often have stopped at the Mount Charleston lodges after hiking or skiing for food and drinks.
For betting small, playing slowly, and with no competition for 20 miles, I thought that was very cool.
LOOSE LIPS! 😀Quote: WizardLet me share a memory. My last visit there, a couple months ago, a friend was playing video poker at the bar. I think he was playing one quarter at a time. I was not playing, but advising on the tough hands. The bartender kindly comped all drinks for both of us.

This one is more recent:
It was mentioned in this LVRJ article:

Quote: WizardI'm confused about these cabins. Are they close to the lodge or the ones much higher, in a residential area, near a stand-alone restaurant that has a big fireplace in the middle?

Are you talking about “The Retreat”…? The hotel before you get to the end of the line that also has a restaurant. There are no cabins there.
Or…
The Lodge near Cathedral rock was the stand alone restaurant with cabins within walking distance? The Lodge burned down. The cabins remain.

Well blow me down! All this time I thought the wrong structure burned down. I did not know what either structure was actually called, despite patronizing both many times. Here are the names:
The image above is the Retreat on Charleston Peak. It is also known as the Resort on Mount Charleston. It did NOT burn down.
The image above is of the Mount Charleston Lodge. It DID burn down.
Both of these structures are poorly named. The Retreat is NOT on the Peak. The image below is me on the peak.
The Lodge is not a lodge. Here is the definition of lodge from Dictionary.com:
1) a small, makeshift or crude shelter or habitation, as of boughs, poles, skins, earth, or rough boards; cabin or hut.
2) a house used as a temporary residence, as in the hunting season.
Thank you for the correction, TD. My earlier posts were memories from the Retreat.
Quote: JohnnyQNow I am also confused. Which is the one you see on the left when driving to the Mary Jane Falls trailhead on that main road ?

The Retreat on Mount Charleston, which did NOT burn down.
Quote: rxwineHave they announced the cause of the fire?

I believe they said there was combustible material items being stored under the patio deck…not sure why they were storing things there or what, that could have been where the fire originated. They were also doing an addition to the Lodge…could have been loose wires exposed. I don’t think the fire department issued a clear cause though.

The cabins are steps away from the lodge and are around the front parking lot area of the lodge. I have stayed in them a few times when I was dating. I think most of them have indoor Jacuzzi's.
