I couldn't figure out which forum was the proper one for this thread, so I stuck it in "Forum Info Help." Move it out of here if there is a better place. This is a suggestion, so it may not lead to many posts anyway.
Under the section of this site for discussion of Las Vegas casinos, I think it is perhaps past time for a forum on the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas. There are plenty of things we could have talked about in anticipation, and the place is actually supposed to open in less than two weeks. I plan to visit there on its first day of operation (assuming Dec 15 is really the day), though I will be staying at the Rio. I recently read about some outlandish asking prices for room packages for New Year's weekend -- $5,600 for three nights in a standard room.

Does that $5,600 include the resort fee?

I don't know, mkl. Your school should be out that weekend; why don't you book it and let us know what extras they tack on. We could probably use a full review of the hotel, casino, shopping, restaurants, bars, etc. Maybe they'll have some good AP opportunities during their opening weeks. Have at it. ;-)

I sense a wee bit of sarcasm here.
I think that the only person who should do a review of a hotel that charges $2000+ a night should be someone who is willing to pay that much to stay there.
And if there's any VP paying over 98%, even at $25 denominations, the earth will open up and swallow the place.

It sounds like an interesting place what with all those elderly women groping young men, all the puppies and kittens running around the hallways chasing pant-less bell hops. I'm sure if they tack on a resort fee on top of the outrageously priced New Year's Eve rooms the check clerk will say that their bill involves "Just the Right Amount of Wrong".
Yes, there should be a thread for the Cosmopolitan in the same database as other casinos on this forum. Just as you don't delete the thread right away whenever a casino is imploded, there should probably be some lead time wherein a thread exists even though the soft opening is not yet underway.
Some real estate projects in Vegas are akin to Vapor Ware in the computer field. The projects get announced, the fancy drawings are given some publicity and then either the land is flipped or the funding dries up.

I suppose it could be a typo, but I just clicked on the NYE package on their web site and it does indeed quote $5,600 for 3 nights.
Cosmopoliton NYE package
For comparison, Wynn is listed at $1,257 + tax, just for the rooms without the meals and concert

How can anyone get excited about a new hotel opening in LV any more? After a loud grand opening they all fizzle as they succumb to the wonderful LV economic woes. The Cosmo is so city-like it looks as if it's part of that City Center fiasco that caters mostly to uppity foreigners and can't possibly have an acceptable occupancy %. I'll stop by to see it when I get good and ready, and I'd NEVER run over on opening day just to say I was one of the first to see it before it went under.

I have plans to be in town that week anyway, and I go to every casino at least once to pick up a souvenir chip for my collection. I figure I might as well get one on opening day before they get all grungy. I think it will be interesting to see what the place looks like, and I am curious to see whether they will really be ready for business on Day 1.Quote: JerryLogan... Please let us know if some rich old lady gropes you at the Cosmopolitan while you are joining Club Identity or something.
I think that commercial indicates its going to be a fiasco. I also understand that even though they are not yet open, they committed some sort of public relations Faux Pas that is causing them a bit of embarrassment.
I would imagine it will appear to be physically impressive and very sparsely populated.
