We have decided to change the date of WoVCON East to one off the following, please vote on a date in this thread if you think you would have more than a 50% chance of attending on said date:
May 13-14
May 20-21
May 27-28
Pursuant to the voting in that thread, the winner for the location of the event was Rivers Casino (Pittsburgh), but what I would like to do is to have two different dates take place at two different casinos, so I would like everyone to vote on a casino with it ending up being a different casino each day.
Depending on the schedule of my ex-wife, I may or may not be able to be present for the entire event on both days, and depending on the venue, there may be a day upon which I cannot make it at all. That really doesn't matter, though, the purpose of doing two different days is so that as many of us as possible can get together.
I will say that if my ex-wife is off both days (which means I wouldn't have the kids) then I would be probably willing to do both days even if it meant driving a few hours.
Unless it is overwhelmingly unpopular, I think that the consensus location from the previous thread for the Saturday was Rivers Casino (Pittsburgh) which I think is a horrible location for this for several reasons. However, if that is what everyone wants to do, then that is what everyone wants to do. Here are some other casinos within six hours, or so:
As an aside, if Rocky Gap still has the Stay & Play promotion then, we would be able to get rooms for $99 + Tax and would get $99 Free Play, so those that would want to stay can do it pretty cheap.
Meadows Casino (Washington, PA)
Lady Luck Nemacolin (Farmington, PA)
Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack (Wheeling, WV)
Mountaineer Casino (Chester, WV)
Rocky Gap Casino (Flintstone, MD)
Mardi Gras Casino (Cross Lanes, WV)
Hollywood Casino (Ranson, WV)
JACK Cleveland (Cleveland, OH)
Hollywood Grantville (Grantville, PA)
SugarHouse Casino (Philadelphia, PA)
Maryland LIVE! (Hanover, MD)
PARX Casino (Bensalem, PA)
Harrah's Chester (Chester PA)
Valley Forge Casino (King of Prussia, PA)
Resorts (Atlantic City, NJ)
Tropicana (Atlantic City, NJ)
Golden Nugget (Atlantic City, NJ)
Harrah's (Atlantic City, NJ)
Caesars Palace (Atlantic City, NJ)
Bally's (Atlantic City, NJ)
Borgata (Atlantic City, NJ)
There are certainly others within six hours, but most of them are West, and I think the primary problem is that Pittsburgh was too far West for several people.
Poverty, the infirmities of age and The Gout insure that Fleastiff will have neither transportation funds nor gambling funds. Fleastiff may well be in jail at the time, if he strangles a quack in the interim, but Fleastiff wishes you all well and hopes that you have a merry ol' time.
Rocky Gap does not have the 'stay and play' listed on their website now - and my guess is they won't as long as the golf course is open. It would still work pretty well for me*, but frankly this means what they are offering isn't all that hot now, not as far as games/promotions. A friendly but small casino.
Charles Town also works well for me, but wouldn't be my first choice, never been there. A question remains as to how they are reacting to MGM National Harbor undoubtedly taking some of their business. One of these days I have to check it out so I would be OK with the choice.
I would be OK in fact for Sunday to be at any of the below, none of which I feel like vouching for too much. Since I know it is a pain in the butt if people won't vote, I have listed them in order of my own preference.
In order of preference:
Rocky Gap Casino (Flintstone, MD)
Hollywood Casino (Ranson, WV) [Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races]
Hollywood Grantville (Grantville, PA)
Lady Luck Nemacolin (Farmington, PA)
Maryland LIVE! (Hanover, MD)
I'd consider other places, except Phil. and NJ trips seem unlikely.
*by coincidence I have a room offer, subject to availability, so for selfish reasons ....
Quote: odiousgambitMy April calendar is in flux right now, but I will try to make it for Sunday at least, likely coming from Fredericksburg VA area.
I was hoping you'd be able to make both days, but either way, good that we made this a two-day affair!

I would actually go as far as to endorse Lady Luck Nemacolin of those simply because I think we could get our own $5 Craps Table just by virtue of being there at 11:00a.m. on a Sunday when Craps opens. They do have the slightly smaller tables, as I recall, so we might want to actually take a head count and maybe I could get them to open an extra one like I did at Meadows that one year if we're going to have enough people to justify it.
The casino itself is really nice and the staff are extremely friendly. The Video Poker blew last time I was there and probably still does. They have a little restaurant called Otis & Henry's which is not the worst food I've ever had in my life, but is nothing special, either.
We would have to purchase a $10 Gift Card to get in due to PA's idiotic law that they still have not managed to rescind on that. Alternatively, a person can purchase a one-year, "Membership," for $45 which would get themselves and another person in, but no $10 Gift Card if you do that. I suppose the value depends on how many times you think you will be there.
The reason I recommend it is that I figure we could just all eat at the restaurant there, there's a brunch from 10:00-1:00 and then dinner service runs 1:00-9:00 on Sundays. The restaurant is only moderately overpriced when it comes to the food, here's a menu:
https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/blueprint-cdn.searchoptics.com/5602c7a56a07c5812a93a61294ac1d70/2234_nm_sept16_fall_menu_8.5x11_r7_min.pdf
I'm only endorsing LLN because we would easily get a Craps Table to ourselves, it's small, well-lit and quite nice inside. The service is phenomenal. It's basically an oversize Dotty's.
_________
As far as OG's list goes, here's what I have to say about the other casinos:
Rocky Gap: Small, nice inside, good service. I wasn't there long, OG, what can we expect in terms of Craps minimums?
Hollywood Charlestown: Don't know, never been.
Hollywood Grantville: I actually really like this casino, and the buffet is pretty good. Dare I say I consider $16.99 for a Sunday buffet there...more or less reasonable. My concern with this location is that I don't see a $5 Craps Table happening in our future. In fact, over several visits, I've only ever seen a $5 Table of anything once, I think it was MS, but in fairness, I didn't really look that hard because that is not why I was there. I would find out what the New Member signup offer is before we go, compared to some other Hollywoods, it could be a waste of a signup, so you might not want to do it there.
Maryland LIVE!: I was there for about three hours once, other than the making money part, it was about three hours too long. That place is LOUD! Any word on what the Craps minimums might be on a Sunday?
Things could change, that'd be a good time! But odds are ....Quote: Mission146I was hoping you'd be able to make both days

Prior to MGM/NH opening nothing below $15, which you wouldn't count on either, although somebody else might have a better idea. Quote: DocThanks for the P.M. reminder on this, Mission. Although I have posted in the threads about these gatherings, I have never yet attended a WoV gathering in the northeastern quadrant of the country. It appears that I must miss this one, too, since it will happen just four days after I return home from the Spring Fling in Las Vegas. I don't think my wife and I will be up to getting back on the road that quickly.
Is that in April? I thought it was May. If you want, we can probably postpone it until May. So far, myself, OG and ONM are the only ones who have really indicated that weekend is still good anyway.
Obviously rivers is good for me on any date as I can walk there, well maybe bike.
Nem would be fun too but I don't think I could make it in April. If it was in May then that may get my vote.
I guess I'll probably have to update the PM's, too.
Blast.
Let's vote on the weekend for May, first, and we still might do two different days and casinos:
Please select every weekend for which your probability of attending is better than 50%, and we shall go with the weekend that has the most matches:
May 13-14
May 20-21
May 27-28
Regardless of the weekend chosen, the likelihood of my attending does not change at all for Sunday. For a Saturday, it would depend on where it is and whether or not my ex-wife works that day, which is something I wouldn't really know until may, so it is what it is.
Thus, I vote for any of the above weekends.
Quote: Mission146I guess I'll probably have to update the PM's, too
I think so. There were probably a few who aren't following it now who might make May. Presumably May is better for me as well - except for one of those weekends a nephew is getting married.
I guess I'll probably have to update the PM's, too [how did that get in there?]
May 27-28 - my vote
May 13-14 - probably OK too, second choice
May 20-21 - cannot do

Only one I could do is 27-28. Unless the group wisely decides to relocate to the casino triumvirate of Seneca Niagara, Casino Niagara, and Fallsview. Then I'd be available pretty much any weekend.....
What are the Craps minimums like? How's the VP? Free drinks?
Quote: RomesSo the PM said Apr 29-30, but the thread has all March weekend dates... The PM also said between 2 casinos and the thread seems like an open location at this point? Can anyone give an update to where we are as of right now?
You need cliffs on a 12 post thread? Haha you type posts longer than this thread.
Basically we had an April date set up bit it looked like it was going to be a bad month so we are now voting on a weekend in April. Looks like the last weekend in april is lining up well but we dont have a location yet.
Voting on a weekend in April, Orly??? This is the last mention of dates in this thread:
I also at first glance took these as March dates, not May. Past that still seems like the venue is wide open then?Quote: odiousgambit...May 27-28 - my vote
May 13-14 - probably OK too, second choice
May 20-21 - cannot do
May 13-14 13th is out because son has baseball game at 7pm, but Sunday is wide open.
May 20-21 we have a game at 1pm on 20th so I am good for evening and Sunday but if we go to nem or Maryland then that may be tough.
May 27-28 we have no games and no trips planned so I am wide open for any casino depending on prices to stay if it is not local to Pittsburgh.
I definitely like the idea of doing something like Nemacolin or Rocky Gap as it is something different and we could possibly even get some kind of non casino activity going. Only problem for me on both of those are the cost of hotels. NEM is super expensive and there doesn't seem to be much around there to stay. Rocky gap is 189 for that Saturday but there appear to be a few places within 20 minutes that are near or under $100.
Quote: RomesI wasn't sure which information was more up to date, the PM I received or this thread.

I was just giving you a hard time. I figured you misread the may for March. But to answer your question , yes voting is for date only and no location has been agreed upon yet. I assume we will get the date and then those that are fairly confident on going can vote on location. I am sure a few will be ok with the date but then can't go to a certain location.
Quote: GWAEMission, here are my votes. I am going to vote for the 27th weekend but any of them will work just with different plans.

Why would you need to stay in Nemacolin, if you don't mind my asking? I could see where that would be a problem for people travelling from a greater distance than we are. I'm not going to stay at Nemacolin, I would just drive back. If we did pick Nemacolin, for anyone needing to stay, I would suggest staying in Washington, PA.
Yeah, that sounds good for Rocky Gap, but I was thinking we would do a Sunday if we did something like RG, so the rooms should be a little cheaper. I would suggest that almost half of the attendees are coming from either PA/OH, so I think a Saturday thing should be in one of those states, but we'd see what happens in voting. The Sunday would be fine elsewhere, just about anywhere, I would think.
I mean, if I don't like the hotel prices, I'll just drive. Even the Falls, Philadelphia, AC, whatever. Wouldn't be the first time I've driven there and back in the same day and, God willing, wouldn't be the last.
Quote: RomesSo the PM said Apr 29-30, but the thread has all March weekend dates...
you and GWAE* are adding to the confusion! it is April weekend getting scratched, and now a May weekend being considered
PS: but you are right, this brings into question the Saturday spot, do we assume that Rivers as the location is still a fact?
*asterisk is to indicate member GWAE, not the radio show/podcast
Ha, this is why I usually just wait until you guys have decided on a firm date/location and then respond if I can attend or not =P.Quote: odiousgambityou and GWAE* are adding to the confusion! it is April weekend getting scratched, and now a May weekend being considered

If it was just a one day thing then I would have no problem driving anywhere for 1 day. I thought there was mention of doing a get together on both days. Either way, maybe we should stop talking about location and get a firm weekend first and go from there. How many people do we have potentially, any?

We're voting on dates first, just in general terms, and then we are going to work on location.

That's what I'm trying to clarify and not doing a very good job.
What I am proposing is that we take one weekend consisting of a Saturday and a Sunday and, on that weekend, we do two different casinos. They can be close together or far apart. People can go on the Saturday but not the Sunday, on the Sunday but not the Saturday or on both days.
Anyway, what we are voting on right now is the weekend, so of the three potential weekends:
5/13-5/14
5/20-5/21
5/27-5/28 (Memorial Day Weekend)
I want to get the one that works for as many people as possible, and then we will vote for two casinos, again, based on what works for as many people as possible for each day.
The first thing that I want to do is point out that we ARE NOT voting on casinos at this point. We are voting for what weekend, generally speaking, everyone would be more than 50% likely to make it for AT LEAST ONE DAY. After that generality has been determined, we are going to list ALL possible casinos and everyone will then vote on what day(s) they could make it to each of the casinos.
So, here is the procedure and my timetable for it:
1.) Vote on a Weekend (Voting Concludes at 13:12p.m. EST on Monday 3/27/17)
2.) Vote on a Casino(s) and say what days you could make it. (Voting Concludes at 13:12p.m. EST on Monday 4/3/17)
The idea is that we are going to narrow it down to as many people as possible being able to make it on a particular weekend, then a particular day, then a particular casino for each day. We may or may not do two days, if everyone who wants to go can make it to the same casino on the same day, then there will be no need to do two days. I have a feeling we will probably do two days.

That said, I favor either the first or 3rd weekend over May 20, but can't commit to any of those at the moment.
The criteria for voting is just that you be more than 50% likely to make either one day or another at a casino in any of the following states:
OH
WV
PA
NJ
MD
NY
Again, for either of the two days. Are there any weekends you can say that about, in general terms?
Mission146
OdiousGambit
SOOPOO
GWAE

I did say 'possible'. Did I miss anyone?
As many people as possible is always great, but I'm primarily interested in just getting the best weekend that everyone is more than 50% likely voted on. Anyone who doesn't feel confident enough about any weekend to vote on that right now can always jump on board later.
Like I said, I don't have a problem with two different casinos in two states far from each other at all, it's just that the Saturday might have to be close to me for me to go. The Sunday can be virtually anywhere.
Quote: Mission146Anyone who doesn't feel confident enough about any weekend to vote on that right now can always jump on board later.
I will have to remain in that category for now, although I would like to attend one of the events with the WoV East title.
My problem is the combination that my wife and I will be going to Mississippi next week (staying at both Gold Strike in Tunica and Beau Rivage in Biloxi) and then heading to the Spring Fling less than three weeks later (with plans to visit more than 20 casinos from Las Vegas to Lake Tahoe to Reno to Tonopah to wherever as part of that trip).
I suspect that this wears my casino-rights-for-this-spring a little thin, while she-who-must-be-obeyed wants to go to the beach in Florida during May. We don't have much else planned for that month, but I think I could be on shaky grounds by suggesting another multiple-casino trip so soon. I'll keep my eyes on the WoV East III plans to see whether something plausible for us develops.

I bet you'd make it if I found some way to get a WoV East chip made! ;)
Hopefully you can make it whatever weekend it ends up being. Don't hesitate to vote on any casinos that may be convenient to you (when the time for voting on that comes) even if you didn't vote on the actual weekend.
Quote: BozNot voting on my end based on not being able to commit to any particular date. But I will try and make it one day based on business staffing and such. Coming from Eastern PA, I'm open to wherever is decided. I do hope a date can be decided on that a nice amount of members can attend.
You don't think there is any weekend where you would be more than 50% to be free one day or the other assuming that one day or the other could be close to Eastern PA?
Quote: Mission146You don't think there is any weekend where you would be more than 50% to be free one day or the other assuming that one day or the other could be close to Eastern PA?
Sadly no because it will be a later minute decision based on staffing as we are going into crazy season. But assuming I can fill a couple open positions in the coming weeks, any Sunday should not be an issue. Without giving an exact location, I'm closer to all the Eastern PA casinos but have no issue heading west. I would stay overnight Sunday since early in the week is usually never an issue. Friday and Saturday are the tough days to get away.
My vote is for the weekend of May 20th -21st
Those dates would work out well for me.

Nice, sounds like you'll be there at least one of the days no matter what.
Romes,
We are going to vote on the specific casinos for each day. If we have too much of a geographical split, then I would probably want to do one day at a casino in my area and then the second day would be farther east. Probably either Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Niagara Falls or Maryland.

With the usual qualifiers, like not getting hit with a funeral etc.
We will have a Craps challenge again. That'll make it +EV for everybody assuming the table min doesn't kill us.

If you pick NF I would be there any of the weekends. And as an added sweetener, I would treat for Buffalo wings at my local Duffs. And I could arrange morning golf at a nice course if anyone was interested. By the way, most people do not have to work on Monday, May 29, so that takes some of the pressure off of having to bolt out early Sunday. I am working that Monday though....

That's a strong case for the Falls on a Sunday, in my book! Not so much the Saturday for me, unfortunately, because it would count on my ex-wife to be off on the Saturday.
