According to travel guru Authur Frommer, travel experts and the travel press in general are of one mind: An unintended consequence of the president's efforts to stop Muslims from coming to the United States is torpedoing foreign travel to the US. And not just travel with Muslim countries. Foreign travelers apparently feel an attack on Muslim travelers today could affect them tomorrow.

'Trump Slump' Devastating Tourism

Since the president's original executive order, travel from the seven targeted Muslim countries is down 80%. But travel from all international airport locations is down 17%. Travel Weekly currently estimates this will trigger a 6.8% decrease in international tourism, and that could impact a lot of jobs in the overall hospitality industry.

Seems I've been noticing states reporting declines recently in their share of casino revenues. I was of the opinion that increased competition from nearby states is the cause, and perhaps it is. But, the 'Trump Slump' effects on travel may compound problems for American gaming destinations like Las Vegas.

Hmmm... I wonder if casinos may re-think policies on comps and free parking if business goes into free-fall.

Well, I was planning to visit the US this year, but the proposed visa changes that would require social media profile info would be enough to deter me. Couple that with the unrest that trumpy is stirring up and I'm really disinclined to visit... And I'm not an ethnic minority.. Only when your economy is fubar and your civil society is in tatters will things get fixed. Like an addict your nation will not getting better until it's hit rock bottom. And you aren't there yet. I see a nation still in denial. Get well soon.

I am Canadian and live in a border city. Our school board just announced that they are canceling all school trips to the States because they are concerned about border issues. Such a shame.

Yep. Long gone are the days where I could go back and forth to Windsor and the only thing I'd get asked was citizenship and where I was or where I'm going.

The social media program began under the prior administration. And it was aimed at the countries in the Visa Waiver Program.

Yes I know. I'm not blaming trumpy for the social media program. It was dumb under Obama and it's still dumb. However, I would expect Fascist trumpy to use it more aggressively as an excuse to appear to be extreme vetting. "Apparently, an attack on one group of tourists is regarded as an assaut on all" - Arthur Frommer

What a crock.

Visitor volume to the US began to fall last year.

You think maybe the double digit increase in the US murder rate in 2016 has anything to do with the drop in foreign tourism?

Or the epic rise in the value of the dollar versus most currencies in the past two years?

Fortune

Tourism is down globally.

Vegas isn't so appealing to potential foreign visitors when they see that murders have increased 39% there in 2016, and their currency is at a thirty year low against the dollar.

They can stay home and get shot for a lot less.

In Orlando, the home of Disney World, homicides were up 284% in 2016. Think that doesn't hurt tourism?

Yeah, I think that's got a lot to do with it. I've been to Europe three times in the last 4 years. First time I went, it was like $1.40 to one Euro. Second time, somewhere around $1.25. Third time, about $1.15 or so. Now it's almost down to $1.05.

I didn't even want Trump as President! I voted for Clinton! I actually LAUGHED when Trump announced he was running for President! I thought.,"Oh, that Trump is a funny comedian! LOL! No way is his openly racist and misogynist ass going to actually win! Clinton is going to win this for sure!" On election night, I saw that Trump was only four votes away from Clinton! I begun to stop laughing and get really worried! "Holy crap! He is only four votes away from Clinton! How did he jump up so fast!" When Trump gradually passed Clinton as the night wore on, I even started a thread on another website called,"Holy crap! Trump could win!" And mentioned how damn right scared and worried I was that he had a very good chance of being our next President. I mentioned how I laughed at first but no longer was laughing. When Trump was elected President, I felt like the winds had been knocked out of my sails. I thought,"We are SCREWED as Americans! CRAP!"

So does anyone know what the new rules for even flying are going to be? Someone mentioned to me that even flying in the states is going to require a passport. Do was trying to read about it but couldn't make any sense of it. We will be flying in Aug and then again in Jan. I tried calling the airline but there was a 90 minute hold so I hung up.
Expect the worst and you will never be disappointed. I AM NOT PART OF GWAE RADIO SHOW

They were on their way to the Holocaust Memorial and the Anne Frank exhibit in Farmington, Hills Michigan, ironically enough.
They missed an awesome educational experience.
