I'm sure we can come up with some nickel and dime scenarios :)

Hook the mini-bar sensors up to the front door: it costs you $8 every time you go in or out. While we're at it, put the soap and shampoo in the mini-bar too.
Or just replace the wardrobe with a giant vending machine, like the electronics kiosks at the airport, and that's where the towels, sheets, and toiletries are stored. Air mattresses too. If you want to sleep on anything other than the floor, you have to rent your bed and sheets from the machine. It'd be like if Spirit Airlines ran a hotel.
And really, cash transactions aren't free at banks so why should they be at casinos? When playing gaming machines, buy-ins are $0.95 + 2% for each bill accepted. Printing a slot ticket comes with a $4.95 convenience fee, and exchanging it for cash is the same $0.95 + 2% charge as buying in.
Not to mention, this is coming very shortly on the heels of Netflix raising its monthly pricing by $1 and basically nobody cancelling. For a lot of things, demand is pretty inelastic. I'm sure the analysts have looked at the numbers pretty closely and I'd bet there's a very strong positive correlation between someone's ADT and their willingness to spend $5 on a drink at the table.Quote: Zcore13Complaining about how Las Vegas casinos run their business does about as much good as complaining about the suspension list here. The way companies listen is with their cash register. If people don't go, that's the language they understand. Not many stopped going when food/buffets went from almost nothing to more than it costs at home. Not many stopped going when resort fees were added. Not many stopped going when 6-5 blackjack was added. And I doubt charging a few bucks for parking is going to stop too many people either. Evolution and change are part of life. Most people deal with it.
They will justify bad play while stating all kinds of erroneous claims. Meanwhile they will hypocritically condemn MGM and others for playing and staying at MGM. I wont spend a dime in that place. If you must, rape the rooms, comps and My Vegas rewards or whatever, but don't give them ANY action.
I know there's members here who get "free rooms" and keep up play.
DON'T STAY AND PLAY AT MGM. JUST SAY NO. CANCEL YOUR RESERVATIONS.
Write hate mail and tell your host to suck a bag of D***'s
Tell friends and family how bad MGM is. Post negative things on FB and various social media. about MGM.
Support places who actually give good value.
Either way, the post was meant to be fun. I truly don't care what MGM does. I've already taken the majority of my gambling downtown.
Quote: VegasfanboySure, complaining alone done nothing, but complaining and taking business elsewhere does. I explain why these "fee additions" are short sighted in the post. Saying "not many stopped going when 6-5 blackjack was added" is a bit of a misnomer. Despite records in tourist attendance, gambling has been declining on the Strip. It's myopic to think that charging for parking isn't going to have long term ramifications of perceived value for Vegas tourism.

Oh, they will.
MGM Detroit is usually the first to try something here followed by Greektown then Motorcity. Always in that order too.
Quote: JohnnyQI thought the whole MGM parking "kerfuffle" was about pay parking for events at the new MGM arena behind NYNY. I would be surprised if they went to paid parking for their Las Vegas properties on a daily basis.
Why would that surprise you? Does having to pay for a gym and internet you don't use still surprise you?
I think it's coming. Good players will get their parking comped or validated. Others won't. I'm find with that.

Welcome to the boards my friend!!!
Quote: AxelWolfI can't wait until everyone trollops their ass on here and starts suddenly bitching how bad they are(MGM has been crappy for years). But when the free rooms come rolling in..... people (value ploppys) will find a way to justify their stay and play. They will claim, "I only play X,Y or Z and I'm not giving up much." They WILL try to make their host happy and end up playing to much.

I predict this boycott will as successful as the 6/5 Blackjack boycott. Are the Bellagio $25 tables still 6/5 ?
Quote: DRichI am more surprised that Vegas has not started charging for valet parking. Just about every place across the country besides casinos charge for valet.
Many casinos in the Midwest charge for valet and have for years (those with disabled plates or tags are still free, however).
We'll see. I think there is too much competition for MGM to charge for parking on a day to day basis.Quote: Zcore13Why would that surprise you?

And they will.
If I have $500 to go gambling with, I go to a casino, I park for free, and I play with the $500.
If they start charging $10 to park, I go with $500, I pay $10 to park, and I play with $490. The casino is NOT going to make more money from me
Quote: RaleighCrapsThis has to be a zero sum game for the casino though.

Maybe if you play that much you get your parking validated. But if you just go there to look around or eat, you pay.

Chasing me away won't affect their bottom line, but it will mean one less gambler at their casino when the economy tanks again. They do not waive my resort fee and actually charge me for wanting to check in an hour early (both of which are easily waived at CET). I come to Vegas 5-6 times a year to be pampered, not be treated like another ploppy peasant, and MGM has failed greatly in this with their nickle and diming.

Reply sure they will --- bet one hand in blackjack .... Win get 490+490 Walk with 980. Lose all 500.

You are making the false assumption that you will lose the whole bankroll every trip. Some days players actually win. Some days they only lost part of their bankroll. Now the casino will get $10 more than they would have otherwise.
