(The math tables did not convert with formatting, but you get the idea of a provisional patent. This one is abandoned, anyone may use it for free.)

CROSS REFERENCES
Not Applicable; Roulette is not under patent, so the creation of a new and specific patentable feature for it does not infringe any existing patent, so as long as that new feature is completely and provably unrelated to other proprietary product associated with the game.

STATEMENT REGARDING FEDERALLY SPONSORED RESEARCH OR DEVELOPMENT
Not Applicable; no government monies were used in the development of this product or its patent.

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
The game of Roulette is a standard and public domain casino game where players may make wagers on a number, group of numbers such as a row, column, “corner,” “split,” or “street,” or a number characteristic, such as “odd” or “even,” or a “red number” or a black number.” The mechanism of the number generation in Roulette is determined by spinning a ball in a grooved gutter over a rotating wheel, where the ball later drops into a numbered slot on the wheel to determine the number result. This is the basic form of the game.
Additionally, other new types of bets can be designed for Roulette that are not a part of the existing bet structure as defined above. This is the area where this patent pertains, as it describes a new and proprietary bet structure for the game of Roulette.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The Roulette Reno bet is a new and proprietary bet for the game which allows a player to bet that some or all of a group of numbers will occur within a certain number of Roulette Wheel spins. The player selects a group of numbers (in the range of 0,00, and 1 to 36) to appear in a certain number of spins. The amount of spins, and the amount of numbers hit within that certain number of spins are variable, as there are multiple versions of the Reno bet possible. The bet ends when a certain number of spins are completed. If a player had hit a certain minimum of his numbers or all of his numbers, the player will amounts that are described in the payout tables relating to the exact Reno bet he had wagered. If he had hit less than a specific number, then he loses his bet.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME
The Roulette Reno bet is a new bet for the game of Roulette where the player wagers that a group of selected numbers will occur within a certain number of Roulette wheel spins. The Roulette Reno bet may be used with either the “American Roulette” version of the game, where there are two zero type numbers in the game (“0” and “00”), or with the “European Roulette” version, where this is only a single Zero number (“0”).
The Reno bet is implemented and played as follows:
1. During a Roulette game, a Player selects a group of numbers, in the range of 0, 00, or 1 through 36, to occur within a certain number of spins. This group of numbers may be selected manually, by notifying the dealer, or in an automated fashion, by the use of an electronic console attached to the game table.
2. The player continues to play the standard game, where he makes standard single-spin bets such as a number, or a “street bet,” or a “Red,” Black,” “Odd,” “Even” bet, etc., while the game is in progress.
3. The dealer and/or the electronic game console will keep track of the player’s Reno bet as the game progresses.
4. Once a certain pre-defined number of spins had occurred, the bet is completed. If player has hit some or all of his selected numbers, (depending on the version of the bet), the player won his “Roulette Reno Bet” wager; if he hit fewer than a minimum needed number of hits, he loses his bet.
5. The table may be modified to start at a lower number of “hits” occurring, or may be extended to more than eight numbers, but the principle mechanism of the bet remains the same: to hit a selected group of numbers within a certain number of Roulette spins had been completed.
There are multiple possible payout tables with the Roulette Reno bet, but the primary payout tables are described below as examples, with the house edge listed also:

a) “Match Four” Reno bets: Pick four numbers to hit in four spins; this is called the “Match-4” bet.

b) “Match Five” Reno bets: Pick five numbers group to hit in five spins; this is called the “Match-5” bet.

c) “Match Six” Reno bets: Pick six numbers group to hit in six spins; this is called the “Match-6” bet.

d) “Match Seven” Reno bets: Pick seven numbers group to hit in seven spins; this is called the “Match-7” bet.

e) “Match Eight” Reno bets: Pick eight numbers group to hit in eight spins; this is called the “Match-8” bet.

Payouts start after hitting a minority of numbers, and escalate in payouts when more or all of the numbers are hit.

There are no stipulations as to the sequence or the order of the player’s selected numbers occurring, just so as long as the player’s selected numbers are hit (in any order) within the pre-ordained number of spins had occurred.

Additionally, the Roulette Reno bet can have the payout table start at fewer than five numbers to be hit, or extended the table to more than eight numbers hit. The following examples are just some “sample embodiments” of the Roulette Reno bet.
Below are the technical tables for samples of the Roulette Reno bet:

CLAIMS

1. We claim a new and unique type of Roulette side bet where a player may wager that a group of numbers will occur within a certain amount of Roulette wheel spins. Prior to this, all Roulette bets consisted of single-spin wager completions.
2. We claim that any amount of numbers can be used to compose this “Reno” wager to occur within a certain number of spins, but that the optimal size is in the two to eight number-sized group.
3. We claim that the Roulette Reno Bet may be implemented by the use of an electronic console near or on the Roulette table by a player or dealer, or manually, by the Roulette dealer on a player’s behalf.
4. We claim that the occurrence of a certain number of multiple spins is the trigger to complete the Roulette Reno bet.

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE

The Roulette Reno bet is a new proprietary bet for the casino game of Roulette. It is based on a player selecting and hitting a group of numbers within a certain number of Roulette wheel spins. This new bet may be implemented manually by the Roulette dealer, or by the player entering in his numbers into an electronic console attached to the game table.

--------------- End of Provisional patent ----------------------------

There were some other "similar but not quite the same" Utility patents on Roulette, but my lawyer and I descriptively analyzed the differences and went ahead at that time, because there was not infringement.

What I have learned is that Roulette multi-spin side bets are very tough to implement for Roulette, because it will require electronic consoles hooked up to the ball reader display to operate in a TITO fashion, as the dealer cannot quickly and accurately manually handle the extra dealing load. (slot machine receipt TICKET-IN, TICKET-OUT fashion). Still, you specify that it may be manually operated in the patent, to cover that area, in case an elegant solution to it is found.

Only a suberb Roulette side bet as a shot at getting this kind of investment, and I didn't find it; Dave did and will.

When I'm preparing provisional patents, do I need to include all the mathematics.? Or is it sufficient to state how the house edge is achieved?

I'm finding the above post excellent as a rough template of sorts - reference guide. If anyone else has old provisional patents they could post, I'd be extremely grateful. I have five to produce, and I'm minded to make them as thorough/professional as possible, so as not to trip myself up at a later date.

As always, thanks in advance for responses.

I know Free advice is always worth the price, but someone who should know, has told me you can put 2 or 3 games on the same provisional patent and then go for a regular patent and draw out what you need from the PPA.

Any opinions ?

Yes, you can do this. I did a provisional with two games and after a year i broke them into separate patents.

This would be quite feasible in conjunction with the SHFL (Bally Tech) Vegas Star Roulette.

I'm doing this right now, as we speak, from a provisional that has over a dozen disclosures in it.
