Taking $1K with me for the SOLE purpose of video poker, and playing the Wizard's basic strategy, what is the ideal per bet wager I should make to guard against risk of ruin? I know that this has been addressed to a degree in WizardOfOdds.com but I'd like some others' opinion in less mathematical terms.
As an aside: can somone tell me the basic landscape for French Quarter bars and their Vid Poker machines? Any I should avoid? Are the paytables for JB truly 9/6 or are they dumbed down to rip off the tourists?
Thanks guys and girls!
Jeff
Quote: HorseJeffI will be making trips to both Tunica and New Orleans soon. Tunica will be concentrated around live hold em and table games and NOLA will focus on video poker, as Harrah's is the only game in town there and I wish to see more than the inside of their casino.

As a near-strictly JoB player, I can tell you $1000 only for VP would be best spent at the $.50 level or $.25 level. I figure that $100 gets me about an hour session at $.25, with about a 28% chance of breaking even, 52% chance of ending down, and 22% chance of ending up after roughly 400 spins (which is about an hour for me). Multiply that by 2 or 4 and that's what I personally would need for a session at higher amounts.
If you want a chance at bigger wins, with more time to enjoy the FQ and NOLA, I'd play the $1 level. However, for your bankroll, $.50 would probably be your best choice.

I've never been to NOLA, but I'm guessing Harrah's doesn't have any great VP plays. In markets where they are not competitive with other casinos, they tend to have awful VP... okay, well they tend to have awful VP in most cases, but I'm guessing 9/6 JoB is probably only available at the dollar level.
I know you're sticking with poker and table games in Tunica, but Roadhouse (ironically, a Caesars property) has fantastic VP and usually has some cool gift for playing for a while. You should really check them out. Be careful there though, as not ALL the VP is great, but they have quite a few good machines. Plus, it will get you offers to stay at their hotel, which is SWEEEEET
