I was playing Double Double this weekend at the Orleans and on my first hand I was dealt K3332. I believe I played the hand correctly by holding the 3, 3s even though I thought about keeping the 2. I was then dealt 3J, final hand 3333J. I don't believe I was suppose to keep the 2, but I wish I had done so.
Can someone please confirm I made the right play?

You made the right play. The kickers will come.

You definitely made the right play. Also, video poker games (unless any laws have changed) do not determine the draw cards until you press the draw button. So, if you would have hit the draw button at any different millisecond, you would have gotten different draw cards.
Read the Wizard's signature: "It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet." Very good to remember when playing video poker. Don't regret the draw if you made the right decision.

Quote: IbeatyouracesI had one that made me cringe a few years ago. On a $1 JoB I was dealt a pair of Q's with a 3 card royal. I played it right holding the queens but damn it if the first 2 cards to show were the 2 that filled the $4000 royal.
I would have lost it if that would have happened to me. I was pissed off on my win, can't imagine what I would have been in your situation.

I've no idea what pays what and can only hope you did the right thing.
No matter what the game, the best move is the one that is optimal for that situation based on what is then knowable.
Optimal Strategy at blackjack doesn't mean you start winning, it just means you make the best attempts to.

You made the correct play in double double bonus, but you made the incorrect play in triple double bonus.
In TDB when dealt three of the "jackpot cards" with a kicker, you hold the kicker. For example, dealt AAA2J you would hold the three aces with the deuce because this hand has the same value as four to the royal. In TDB quad aces with a kicker is worth 4,000 credits.
In TDB quad 2s with a kicker is worth 2,000 credits. Same jackpot hand with quad 3s and 4s with a kicker.
Now, if you wouldnt hold the kicker because you were trying to maximize your chances for quad aces, 2s, 3s and 4s (also big payoffs), you are not alone. this is what Rob Singer's strategy says to do... drop the kickers and maximize your chances for drawing the quads.
Surprisingly a lot of VP players do play the way Singer suggests.

I could have made the very first response to your question, which was unanswerable due to lack of information. Let me take a little heat off Dan and just ask what in the world are you doing playing without the strategy at hand? Just donating money, obviously, but how can you ask the question in the first place? This is at least high school here, no kindergarten questions, please.
