So my brother lives in Texas and was at sun coast casino in New Mexico. We both don't know much about video poker. He sent me a picture of the payout table for some reason I can't figure out how to post it. there was 5 columns of different payouts and the last one on the right was 20000 rf and straight flush was 1250... That can't be correct.. 5k for a royal flush on a .25 cent machine???

It was allowing him to bet 25 credits per hand, not just 5, as a max bet. Normally machines are set for max bet of 5 credits, or $1.25 on quarters. He would have to bet $6.25 for a single line to get that paytable.

Some of these, when displayed, the values for 1-4 credits/hand are always displayed, and the 5th column is the only one that changes as you set your bet up or down, "collapsing" or hiding the columns of the paytable.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Is the game worth playing? On the single line it's 8/5/4. Anyone know the return?

maybe.

Yes it's 97.3% if it is indeed 8/5 Jacks or Better.

But maybe it's 8/5 Bonus. Bonus poker does have the "Jacks or Better" payout at the bottom --- and since these guys are admittedly not knowledgeable at all about video poker, they could easily be confused on this.

It's easy to check. If all 4-of-a-kinds get listed as 625, then it's Jacks or Better --- and I would not play it. If four aces pay more than other 4-of-a-kinds, it's a different game. Doesn't have to be Bonus Poker. Could be Double Bonus or Double Double Bonus, which have worse returns than JoB.

If it's an Indian casino, it's probably some awful game like 3/2 Unbonus Poker where your bet is a push if you get Aces or better (same color) and the machine delivers a painful electric shock if you get a straight or flush.

I've never found any decent plays in New Mexico, save a long time ago at the Sandia casino on I-40 west of Albookooky, on one of the most boring stretches of road on the planet--the only reason I stopped. I found several 99%+ games there, but that was over a decade ago.

Although for many, there's a bonus reason for going to a New Mexico casino--for an afternoon, at least, you're no longer in Texas.

Sure it could be 8-5 6s or better or 8-5 custom made deuces wild but all of those are highly unlikely and it's just almost likely a normal machine that op has not seen before

It was a wong wight turn. Get your Fuddspeak correct!

Actually, though, you could always find Wile E. Coyote having a beer at a local rest stop. I'm pretty sure those landscapes were the inspiration for the art in the Road Runner cartoons. (And isn't the road runner the NM state bird?)
