You may recall a video poker game where you have to pay for the draw in my thread VIDEO POKER GAME WITH 205% RETURN. I since wrote a page on the game, which is titled American Poker Gold.
The same software company has another game titled Turbo Poker with the same rule of paying for both the deal and the draw. This time there isn't a joker in the deck and the lowest pay is a two pair instead of a pair of jacks. As with the joker poker game, the player must bet again for the draw, or decline it.
Here is my analysis of the game on a "to one" basis.
Hand | Bet | Net win | Combinations | Probability | Return |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Royal flush | 1 | 999 | 30,678,780 | 0.000002 | 0.001538 |
Royal flush | 2 | 998 | 378,873,000 | 0.000019 | 0.018969 |

Three of a kind | 1 | 4 | - | 0.000000 | 0.000000 |
Three of a kind | 2 | 3 | 1,282,517,202,780 | 0.064341 | 0.193022 |
Two pair | 1 | 2 | - | 0.000000 | 0.000000 |
Two pair | 2 | 1 | 2,141,786,352,420 | 0.107448 | 0.107448 |
Loser | 1 | -1 | 8,609,999,607,000 | 0.431942 | -0.431942 |
Loser | 2 | -2 | 7,261,181,672,580 | 0.364275 | -0.728550 |
Total | 19,933,230,517,200 | 1.000000 | -0.411652 |
In other words, a house edge of 41.17%. Quite a bit different from the player advantage of 16% advantage in American Poker Gold.
The question for the poll is would you play this game?
