So I've been playing this game for five-play quarters recently. The swings have just been insane. I went down $5,000, up $4,600, and then down another $5,000. This was in the space of DAYS. I mean, betting $12.50 a hand, you don't expect that. Does anybody actually play this game long term? It seems like you have to weather a hurricane of variance. Also,, a lot of handpays.
I've hit four handpays: A 3x royal ($3k), 4 aces times 12($2.4k), dealt four deuces with a couple of multipliers and a kicker($1.3k), and dealt four to a royal and drew it on two hands ($2K).

I just wonder how many people are getting destroyed by the machine because they don't know the variance. Of course, you could be like StrictlyAP and just hit jackpots...
Not to mention usually the paytables are horrible, and optimal strategy is difficult.

I have lost $3600 on .10 5 and 10 play in a short period of time. I generally run ban playing UX, it's a wicked game. I seem to always blank out after getting a dealt hand.
I have often said, I can't understand how normal people can afford to play this game.

One casino I go to has it for nickels at one of the bars. That is the only place I can afford to play it.

$12.50/round, playing "slow" at 10 seconds per round is $4500/hr coin-in.
6 seconds per round puts that at $7500/hr coin-in.
So yeah, you expect that kind of swing, or at least you should.

I respectfully disagree. Playing, for example, $0.25 9/6 Jacks 10-play, it is also $12.50 a hand. But you don't see nearly the same swings. The problem with DDB UX is that you get a TON of 0-value hands. And 2-pair only pays one unit too. So often times you are getting a payback of 10 or 15 units out of 50. So you can have enormous drawdowns.Quote: Dieter$12.50/round, playing "slow" at 10 seconds per round is $4500/hr coin-in.

I wish I could get just one days worth of video from MGM here. You all would be flabbergasted by the degenerates on UX there. These people are either loaded or ripping someone off for their play. They don't even take restroom breaks. And if they need money, they have made up signs stating "went for change" or "I'll be right back". They just can't get enough.

yeessh.. what a roller coaster ride.
even tho it's 99.8% for the 5 play, I'm going to stick with plain old 9/6 JoB (99.5%).
I looked up the 10play variant.. 99.9% because all special quads + sf+ royal gives you 4x multiplier instead of 2x.
but you need an even stronger stomach for that roller coaster!
whiffing on 10 x $2.50 = $25 is painful.

I think you've nailed it. The ton of 0 pay hands, the 2 pair pays 1 both combine to be a pretty fierce downswing. "Losing" at JoB feels a lot like holding even. Losing at DDB (especially UX DDB) is actually losing. TDB should be worse yet, with trips paying 2 - gotta hit fulls and quads to make any headway.
I'm just saying that depending on your playing speed, you lost for 2 to 3 hours over the course of a few days without offsetting winning hours. Nothing there shocks me.
It's not like you're trying to say you were only running $20 an hour in coin in and don't understand how you're down $10000 after 3 days. (For the arithmetic impaired, that'd be $1440 coin in, if you played straight through, no sleeping or breaks.) You did put that much money into action.
May the cards fall in your favor.
