What are some video poker variants who have high payouts, with extreme high volatility? I'm talking about DDB at the lowest. Also adding STP or Ultimate X is great as well. I have an action junkie who wants the best "heaven or hell" game in video poker. The higher the better, with a HUGE potential jackpot. Thanks!

9/6 DDB w/Ult X is one of your better choices for sure. 9/6 DDB w/Double STP (at South Point) pays back 99.48% and has a single hand variance
of 90.38.

For non-gimmick games, I would consider ElCo's "Downtown Deuces" for high return/high variance, or "full pay" loose deuces, or 8/5 Super Aces. 9/7 TDB would be another clear choice, but that game is sometimes a pain to find.

Royal Bonus Aces, according to Bob Dancer's "Video Poker for Winners!" software, has a variance of 181. (Jacks or Better is 19.xx).

For standard VP I would suggest:

  • Royal Aces (as mentioned) is probably the most extreme
  • Super Aces
  • Triple Double Bonus
  • Atlantic City style Joker Poker (2P, where Five of a Kind pays 800x instead of a Natural Royal)
  • Loose Deuces

For novelty VP, I would suggest Triple Double Bonus (or DDB if TDB is unavailable) on any of the following:

  • Big Times Draw Poker
  • Double Pay (or the newer Deal-Draw) Poker
  • Double Super Times Pay
  • Dream Card
  • Multi-Strike
  • Quick Quads
  • Ultimate 4 of a Kind Bonus
  • Ultimate X

Look for a 17/10 Loose Deuces. Not only does it have a lot of variance and volatility, it pays back 101.6%,
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.
