Another free Saturday night stay at Cache Creek Casino & Resort thanks to the Mrs.!

We went swimming with the kids for an hour until the 10pm closing. I relaxed in an S-curve chair in shallow water while enjoying the pool's playlist of swinging songs by Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby Darin, et al. It was a bit windy like on our last visit, which was in November, and we wondered if it's always windy here. The pool is large, with a 5-foot-deep center, and somewhat warmed. The jacuzzi is also large, rectangular shaped, and comfortable for multiple groups to socialize, though only one other couple was there tonight. They weren't militant about the closing time and someone around 10:10 kindly reminded us the pool was closed.

After showering, the Mrs. and I made our way to the center bar, where a cover band played a great selection of today's hits and yesterday's favorites. After one guy got his order, we both had our own VP machines. She ordered a Bogle pinot noir ($8) and I got a screwdriver ($7). She felt the wine was too sour, so the bartender happily swapped it for a Cabernet.

Tonight I had my best run of VP ever. I started with 8-5 JoB, got trips on my first hand, and within 15 hands got quad queens. I rarely ever get quads, and I thought if only I had been playing BPD!! So I switched to 9-5 DDB. Less than 20 hands later, I got quad queens again! This time for 250 quarters instead of 125. Less than 40 hands later, I got a third quad queens and was now ahead $131! I had never gotten more than one 4oaK on any gambling trip — so three in such a short span was mind boggling.

The Mrs. wasn't doing well on her VP, being down $40. She also had $75 in free play that she couldn't use at the bartop. I suggested she play the old IGT Stinkin' Rich slot machine nearby. It's a game that I could get for my garage, but it's also widely available to play on phones and computers. While she was playing that, I continued on DDB, hoping to get four aces or one of the kicker-based awards. Eventually I got four to an inside straight flush. I yelled SEVEN as I slammed the deal button, and behold: a seven of spades to complete the straight flush! Another 250 quarters to get ahead $195. I texted the Mrs. a photo of it, and she soon came back with a slot voucher for $315. She apparently got a bunch of free spin bonuses, which is what you want for that game. From her own $60 and $75 in free slot play, she was up $250! I played more DDB until I finished ahead $150.

My original plan was to play Roll to Win craps as usual, but all stations were filled tonight. Just as well. Oddly, I noticed that some players had thousands of dollars in credit on their screens One guy had $5000. The regular craps with cards table was $15 minimum, with spaces open, but I was done gambling. I observed their roulette with cards game and noticed it's single zero, but $50 minimum. One guy hit an 8 with two single-number chips, and about 9 two-number bets. They had two pai gow tiles tables going and both were $100 min instead of $50 and $100 like before.

I enjoy Cache Creek way more than Graton.

My only problem with Cache Creek: the road to get there. They don't exactly go out of their way to say, "Turn left at this traffic light or else you'll end up in the middle of Yolo County nowhere."

Did you notice if craps was mapping different dies to a separate card or doing the one to one mapping that Jamul and Pechanga are doing?

It was even tougher back in 2002, when GPS wasn't as prevalent. There was at one time a wood sign at an intersection that said "CASINO" with an arrow!

I didn't look closely this time, but on my previous visit last month, the dice were color coded and each card was assigned to that color/symbol and shuffled when a new shooter came out.
