Quote: Baccaratfrom79Ace at least if you play some baccarat you can rip the cards up, crumble them in your fist or even stab them with a pen. It helps.
Good grief.
Quote: beachbumbabsYou have to have yourself, first, last, and forever. It's mistaken as arrogance or pride in a lot of folks, but it's a quiet, pervading sense of confidence when you dial it in.
It certainly shows, whatever it is.
The desire to help others to ease their pain must be tempered by objectivity, lest their problems become your own.
Not always the easiest tightrope to walk.
Quote: MrVI suspect that Ace, like most lawyers I know who specialize in divorce, has conflicting emotions.
Gambling, at least, doesn't discriminate.
Drinking, drugging, gambling: classic balms / escapes in the profession.
Quote: beachbumbabsI wish you all the best, Ace, but I didn't say you had to have a woman or anyone else "solve" you from the outside. I said the opposite: You have to have yourself, first, last, and forever. Everything else flows from that. It's mistaken as arrogance or pride in a lot of folks, but it's a quiet, pervading sense of confidence when you dial it in. Really hard to do, especially as an adult.
Thanks Babs :)

Indeed - plenty of stress and vices to go around
Quote: GreasyjohnAce, you've heard from a lot of us. Hope you take away something positive. Babs, you've shown you care. Thank you both for sharing.
Yeah this turned out to be a very constructive thread and I appreciate you all
Quote: ArtemisShe "borrowed" her clients' money from the escrow account and lost them all. She got disbarred and had gone to jail for 'borrowing the money." It's a very sad story.
It's the biggest reason lawyers go to jail.
They can't keep their hands off the escrow
money. I know a guy that did it for years
and always paid it back. Then just like
floating checks, he didn't get paid and
the escrow was gone and he was
screwed. Another one used the money
to pay back taxes. On and on, they
just can't stand all that money sitting
there doing nothing.
Does the casino have to give the money back? Seeing how they received stolen goods, and normally if you're caught with stolen goods they're seized.
Obviously the lawyer who took the money deserves jailtime for theft/fraud.
Quote: Baccaratfrom79There is what they call 'claw back'. The Government uses it when stolen or fraud money is used to buy things or invest or even donated for charity. The recipients have to give it back to the Government to make the victims whole or at least attempt to.
Right, madoff's case was one highly publicized version of this. I would think the casino would have a vested interest in these kinds of stories staying as quiet as possible.

Thanks, that means a lot - too many attorneys are not even courteous these days, let alone honest
Oh, IC, I hadn't realized. Hey this is 2015 that stuff is perfectly acceptable nowadays ;)Quote: aceofspadesNothing to do with women.

Not that there's anything wrong with that but that is not the case either :-)

you to win so you can keep going.
No trip this weekend—I needed a mental break from playing - even though, in the long run, it is all one continuous shoe, and going one weekend versus another weekend has nothing to do with whether I will win or lose, I felt like I needed a mental break
