The submarine museum in Groton which includes a free tour of the Nautalis (the first Nuclear sub) was very cool and we took a very nice sailing cruise into Fisher Sound on the Argia, an 84 foot schooner. Mystic Seaport itself was very nice with lots of things to explore. We were both a bit disappointed by the Mystic Aquarium.
Sunday we headed to Mohegan Sun (only about 20 minutes away). It was VERY busy. We walked into the casino of the earth and found all the BJ tables to be $25 minimums (too high for my bankroll) so we headed to the casino of the sky only to find the same minimums and finally the casino of the wind where the games were $15 with ok rules (6 decks, S17, DAS, NoRSA, Surrender and decent pen about 75%). I was able to find a seat at one of the tables and played for a bit leaving up a bit to head to some dinner at Marguaritaville. The food was good there but it was quite slow since the basketball game just let out and they were very busy. After dinner I was doing ok until I had an "ACE" moment when I went 3-21-6 over a 30 hand stretch! Ughh. Spent the rest of the week trying to recover (unsuccessfully) from that loss.
Monday we headed to Foxwoods (actually closer than MS) and were VERY disappointed. They had plenty of $15 tables but they were all 8 decks and H17. With similar penetration to MS we decided to head back there rather than stay at Foxwoods. I found it very surprising that with a casino so close (literally less than 15 minutes) that I would find such a different set of rules. Neither of us really liked the decor at Foxwoods either. Anyway off we went to MS and it was not nearly as busy as Sunday night but many of the pits were closed so the tables were quite full. Most all the games were $15 minimum and the penetration was about the same as the previous night. A really up and down kind of night that just felt like a struggle. I'd get down a bit and fight my way back only only to lose it again and fight my way back. I eventually contributed some more to the tribe. We did have good pizza at Frank Pepe's in the Casino of the Earth.
Tuesday it was back to MS. It was much quieter with some tables now $10. I found a seat at one of these with Suzanne being the dealer. She was very personable and gave great penetration (80-85%) but dealt slowly and was very chatty. So hands per hour were down quite a bit. She liked to help players which was usually pretty good, but she did "lecture" me on not doubling my A3 vs her 4. You know dealers 4, 5, 6 are bad cards you have to bet more then! :-) I just sort of stared at her and kept playing my game. However, it was a fun time at her table. I won before dinner but not enough to regain my Sunday losses. We went to a very overpriced dinner at Ballo Italian. The food was ok, just very overpriced. After dinner I played some more and was losing pretty badly until I hit one of those magical runs where you have big bets out and you win doubles and hit blackjacks. A nice way to end the trip. I was still down a bit for the trip but I'm still up nicely for the year.
It was certainly a nice trip with plenty of options for things to do. Not sure I'll return to Foxwoods anytime soon, but certainly would return to Mohegan Sun.
Quote: bj4funMy wife and I headed to Mystic, CT for a short, but long overdue, vacation. We spent our days sight seeing around the area and evenings at the casinos.

That's interesting. I'm nearly at Foxwoods right now(I've only been to Fox and MS twice). I was always told the big differences between the two are the rules. Fox has h17 and 8 deck with amazing pen and MS has s17 6 deck with awful pen. Is the penetration different in these places depending upon what pit you go to?

Foxwoods is all about hands per hour. That's why dealers are instructed to cut off one deck. Do they stick to that? Most of the time. That's why they have ASMs and that's why those eight decks come in one box, pre shuffled from the factory.
There are some dealers who give decent penetration at Mohegan Sun but the majority do not. You would be lucky to walk in the door and find 75% pen.

My friend says MS standard is half shoe. I've seen this a bit myself before I walked away lol
Foxwoods? You must have an extra $4400 to spend.Quote: Lemieux66That's interesting. I'm nearly at Foxwoods right now(I've only been to Fox and MS twice). If you're ever in the area again, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum near Foxwoods, is a great place to visit.
It's the largest Native American museum in the world.
