One of the best ever! Considering he started with 3k or so... And almost lost it..
ETA: I guess those are countdown timers or something. Geee that is horrible. Thank you Tring for not having one.
it's a big run but there are pictures of chips and a deposit receipt so it is very likely true.Quote: AxelWolfIs this just some trip report, where someone has unconfirmed win and losses, while taking pics of nice rooms and junk or is there something good involved?
For some reason, I thought the "got to read this one" meant it ended in disaster. Maybe I'm just twisted.
I anticipated ruin until the end. I thought he was going to try to double it before he got on the plane.
It was quite a let down if you expect something special.
I would maybe call it "maybe read if you have some spare time"
"How'd you do?"
"UP HUGE."
*glance at lack of money on dresser*
"THEY HAVE IT."

Maybe I accidentally left an adblocker on, but I'm only seeing one or two ads per page-- I'm pretty sure those countdown timers are things that people put into their signature block themselves to show off when their next trip is. (Which, yes, I agree, is kind of annoying.)

I am a member of that forum, but I don't visit or post very often. Those countdown timers are popular; I've been known to have one on my signature line. I think they even stay around after the trip with no countdown.
I agree--it is a hard site to read, but I do enjoy the trip reports...and information that is shared.
This guy plays a little bigger than me, but not much (his betting on this trip was way higher than mine, but that's just because he was winning. He also mentioned his normal bet levels and theo)
I have never gotten a suite that looks anything like that. I feel that I am well taken care of, but, a suite with a pool table? I want that! I need to talk to my host...
kind of boring playing by yourself ;)Quote: AxiomOfChoiceHmmm....

lol I need the practice.
But no, I am not usually alone when I go to Vegas. Actually, the weekend we met I was there with a very large group of friends.

(actually, I may have been there alone when we met -- it may have been the previous trip that I was there with the large group. You know that you go to Vegas too much when you can't keep all the trips from the last few months straight)

Forget about keeping trips straight; I can't even even remember the number of trips I've been on since the start of the year...
There is a game called Poolker its pool and poker, I would like to try, that it could be a blast if we add in some "you have to drink for misses" number of drinks can be assessed on the difficultly of the shot.Quote: AxiomOfChoicelol I need the practice.

Sounds like chess boxing.

I resemble that remark!

It's not really a question of if he'll give it all back, but how long it will take (he does not appear to be an AP). Hopefully it takes a nice long time and he has a great time.
Quote: AxelWolfI was informed he made a few 60k bets at the end
It's still impressive. Even getting up to the point where you can make $60k bets is impressive. His total line of credit is, probably, what? $25k? Maybe $50k? This is a guy who usually makes bets in the $500 range.

I thought I read $15K and $30K at two different casinos. Turning $6K into $185K is impressive, that's for sure.
Oh I didn't realize he started with a small amount and never looked back.Quote: AxiomOfChoiceIt's still impressive. Even getting up to the point where you can make $60k bets is impressive. Quote: AxelWolfOh I didn't realize he started with a small amount and never looked back.
In one post he said that on previous trips, his average bet was usually around $500. He also bought in for a $3k marker, lost it, and bought another $3k, and went up from there. So, in for $6k.
Obviously I don't know what his credit limit is, but if his average bet is usually around $500, I would guess in the $25k to $50k range. Also, the fact that he took markers $3k at a time also suggests that he does not have a 6-figure limit.
My point is, given his usual betting amounts, this is a massive win. Good for him!!
Quote: AxelWolfOh I didn't realize he started with a small amount and never looked back.
The other thing is that his wingman left early for the night which allowed him to play unchecked.
...Oddly enough, when that happens to me, it usually ends in tears.
Witness left? Then he won?Quote: VenthusThe other thing is that his wingman left early for the night which allowed him to play unchecked.

If I recall the story correctly, his friend left straight after dinner, before serious play, because they were from the east coast or something, and it was their first night.

I'm in. I think I am slightly above average at both poker and pool. I also drink way too much. I might be plus EV at this game

I think I read somewhere that he has upped his roll over the years from relative low rollers in the 80's and 90's to taking a $30k roll this trip. I would then assume that was his bankroll?
Then I also read elsewhere that he had a higher line available at MB which he didn't use?
This is a massive win no matter which way you slice it. It is almost a dead giveaway that he was trashed as he lost all inhibitions when it came to bet sizes. He didn't care to bet the amounts he had because he was in the bag. If he were sober or if he had his mate with him, things would not have gone down the way it had.
Tell me, have any of you guys ever given your mates $10k each to play with????? I know i haven't :)

I gave one $150 last summer and I only had $800 on me so by my calculations my offer was more generous based on percentage of bankroll offered.

Was it a gift or a loan? Either way, you are a good friend

It was actually for my brother in law who just turned 21 and I took him to AC. We had the same deal about splitting the profits. Now that he just graduated college and will be starting a 80k a year job I will not be doing that again.

Oh, was that what happened in the linked thread (splitting profits?) I didn't read the whole thing because it was really long.
So, did you and your brother in law come out ahead?
Quote: AxiomOfChoiceOh, was that what happened in the linked thread (splitting profits?) I didn't read the whole thing because it was really long.
I don't mind splitting profits if it's with somebody else's money. Still zero risk for me! (Though I'd feel like a jerk if it was a friend of mine, admittedly.)
Pretty he just gave it to them to play with straight up, then foot the bill for the rest of the weekend. I think the post said they ran up a bill of like 70k partying.
He obviously didn't study Medieval History like me... ;)Quote: GWAEIt was actually for my brother in law who just turned 21 and I took him to AC. We had the same deal about splitting the profits. If you meant me in this post, it's because I don't have a Vegas trip currently planned. :( I throw up the countdown timers like most of the others. :P
This was a hell of a thread though. And by the way he talked, he wouldn't have known he was up that much without the pictures. Yikes! I haven't blacked out while gambling...at least I don't think anyway...haha
But apparently variance has caught up with him and he's been getting his butt kicked:
