Hi everyone,
Just got back from a nice quickie trip to Mt Airy Casino in PA. This is a very nice looking property. It has this extensive golf course in the background. There are 2 lobbies. One for the bus side and the other if you're driving up to the hotel. From the bus side, you'll be greeted by a Starbucks, waiting area, restrooms, and escalators leading up to signing up for a players cards. The poker room is on the 3rd floor (a bit small, so I decided not to swim with the sharks). From the hotel side, the lobby has a gift shop to the left, conference rooms, and spa to the right. The center is the reception area. There is a nice fountain in the middle. Escalators will lead you up to the main gaming area.
I signed up for a players card and received a $15 promo, plus $10 promo for having the app downloaded to my phone. The app uses GPS which is a bit annoying. Big brother is always watching. Perhaps they noticed my lack of movement when I was at the penny slots or the craps tables.
Overall layout of the casino is pretty decent. There is a small high limit slot area off to the side. 2 Craps tables, a half dozen black jack, tri card poker, and texas holden tables. A couple of roulette double -0- wheels. There is a nice sports bar in the middle of the floor. Didn't venture to the buffet or steakhouse there.
Now for the craps pit, it was pretty dead in the morning but quickly heated up in the afternoon with the bus crowd coming in. $5 mins up to $10 mins. Now all you guys/gals know I'm a darksider unless I'm shooting. Well, today with the low mins, and a shooter who was actually concentrating on his throw, I decided to bet on him. I was marking up to 3 points with odds. I normally never do this. I did this on his throw and on mine. As for the rest, I was the annoying guy betting the don'ts.
In betting the come to establish an additional point, I have to say that I won more than I lost. This is the first time I've gone up with that many points. Also, there were a couple of times I 7'ed out or the shooter 7'ed out winning the come and offsetting part of the loss from the pass. Conceptually, I understand why betting the come and taking odds has a lower house EV than betting a place bet. Surviving the come out roll offset losing the pass line. However, I did not enjoy having so many bets up on the board. It seemed like a decent way to test a hot shooter, but would I have just been happier betting the place bets and trying to take them down after a couple of hits. Maybe.....
As with shooting, I had 1 good roll, 1 bad roll, and 1 decent roll. Go figure. Thanks to some good bankroll management, when I got stuck in the turning tide, I wasn't drowned. I ended up with a 40% return net (was up 60% but loss 20% to the slots). Paid for lunch, and when you can walk away up, that's what counts.
Overall, had a decent time. The layout I would say is probably 4-5X the square footage of Valley Forge, PA, but as far as table games, maybe only double the amount. There are a lot more slots here 3X.
Servers were pretty good. Comp ratings were horrendous. My action should have gotten me a couple of bucks. Instead, it was tabled at about a quarter for about 2 hours of play (total action varying from $5+odds to $30+odds with a couple of $5 place bets sporadically). What the hell?! Can't even get bubble gum for that action.

When exactly did you "just get back" from your trip? I was there yesterday from about 6-8pm. Did we cross each other?
Comps - separate from marketing offers and future freeplay - in eastern PA are utter crap. You might see a decent bounceback offer for next month, but the comps themselves are baaaaad.

rdw4potus, I was there much earlier. Who knows, maybe we'll meet up the next time I'm in town. PA comps were crap. Mail in promos seem to be their only lure.

Tables were relatively new. Not quite hard and not quite soft. Somewhere in the middle.
