Hi
I was curious to know what % edge players would have if they knew what tiles were in play, in pai gow tiles. For example if the players knew the 20 tiles in the players hands, and were able to speculate what the dealer held from the remaining 12 and could form a strategy accordingly?
If anyone could help i would be most grateful :0)

I've no idea concerning the mathematics nor the practice, but I am fairly confident that once it became obvious what was happening the jig would be up. They are not dumb. The casino will enforce the rules if they notice that the players are not newbies and are starting to win too much.

When I played (for the very first time!) this past weekend, there were SIX players, so in your scenario, there would only be EIGHT unseen tiles.

They are VERY strict about not showing each other the tiles and not talking. No way is anyone going to get the king of knowledge you're talking about.

At one point, an Asian lady on my left kept wanting to 'help' me. OK. She knew I was new. But I've played PG Poker and other games enough to know that you're not supposed to share ANY info.

More than once the dealer/pit boss and I told her that if she wanted to help me, she had to set her own hand first. Eventually she stopped trying to help. Obviously, she really wanted to peek at my tiles.

Sure, she could have used the knowledge from her tiles to possibly select better hands for me, but it was VERY obvious that not only was I really a novice, but we weren't a team, and she probably didn't really care if I won or lost. And quite frankly, I didn't want her help.

On a similar note, players that play two hands must set the hand with the bigger bet first.
I invented a few casino games. Info: http://www.DaveMillerGaming.com/ ————————————————————————————————————— Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown. But how much does it cost to knock on wood? 😁

My recent experience was similar. As long it was just me and my newbie friends sitting at the table, no one seemed to mind that we all played open hands. But the moment an experienced player sat down (and was playing for real money), we were asked to play closed hands.

I will add that the greatest challenge of playing closed hands was trying to manipulate the tiles so that I could see all four at once AND arrange them without accidentally showing them! :)
