I have a question. A friend of mine had me bet for him $10 on the Cubbies to win the series last year when I went to Vegas. I will be going back in 3 weeks and asked if he wanted me to redeem it for him if he wins. He said no he wanted to keep the ticket as he is a diehard Cubs fan. I was wondering if it would be possible for me to redeem the ticket without them marking the ticket in any way so he can keep it.
Let me know if anybody knows if this can be done.

It can't be done. They can make a copy of the ticket, but if he wants to cash it, they will be taking the original for accounting purposes.
Actually I might disagree (at least in years past) I have lost 2 $500+ tickets and just before the ticket was expired I talked to the sports book manager told him the bet, appointment time, date and bet amounts. They somehow searched the bets flagged it in the computer and gave me the money after the ticket expired. Note: I kinda knew the sports book manager and he knew I frequently bet there so he knew I wasn't pulling any shenanigans.Quote: SM777It can't be done. I think if he takes a picture of the ticket with him holding it says he lost it there's a chance they will give him the money once they know it's been expired and no one could cash it. Might not work but if he's not cashing it anyway what's he got to lose?
That being said, the way they played last night...

Yea, you could go the "lost ticket" way. That's an option.
But depending on the book, the process may take longer than others too. It isn't always instant.
I'm not suggesting or endorsing this, however, people have counterfeited forum/twitter/FB posted winning slot/sports tickets and cashed them.Quote: VCUSkyhawkThanks Axel, I know that a Cubs ticket with a WS win is priceless for him, but hell it was +450 so why not try to get the $55.00 as well.

I'm not sure what the law is if you do something like that with your own ticket with no intent to defraud. (I'm sure the ticket says something about tampering or counterfeiting)
Just don't call me from jail for bail.
If you could make a good duplicate, then make 7 of them. Mix them up (but only you know the real one) have him pick one that way he can choose to believe he actually has the original. If he actually picks the real one then it's fate, he just keeps it. Make an agreement with him and a family member that if he doesn't pick the original you will cash it and give the family member the money, but they can't ever tell him either way. No matter what, tell him he picked the original. As long as he believes it doesn't matter does it? Hell, just make a duplicate. Get the ticket and tell him you're going to frame it for him. Then swap it out, frame the fake one, cash the original. Then just get him something worth $500 for his birthday or whatever.
Ya, I know, and it may not even work for sure, but it sounds like they have nothing to lose since he's attached to the ticket.Quote: SM777Yea, you could go the "lost ticket" way. That's an option.

Split it with him?Quote: VCUSkyhawkI am thinking of having him take a picture of the ticket and saying that I took a picture of ticket but lost it before coming to Vegas and can they take pity and cash it. Probably won't work, but I got nothing to lose. The question then is, should I give him the cash since he refuses to give me the ticket to cash.

Tell him to just tear up the ticket and stop thinking about it.
It's the Cubs. Trying to win. The World Series. I mean, come ON...

As we all know...they are DUE. If there was a big ticker in the casino that kept the names of the teams that have a World Series win, all the suckers would say "Man the Cubs haven't come up in 106 years...I GOTTA BET IT"
In all seriousness I do hope they win for their long suffering fans.
Go to a fedex or kinkos. (don't go to UPS, they suck)
Scan the ticket.
Make a copy.
Return the copy.
profit!
Besides, the Cubs are going to lose anyway, so why worry over nothing?

I have a feeling...this is their year.

I don't get it. It's his $10. Why is anyone even considering redeeming it, when it belongs to him? Honor his wishes and fugettaboutit

Because he did say he would have me redeem if he could keep the ticket. Why wouldn't you?
Quote:I will state that I am NOT an MLB fan, so I cant say for sure, however my friend says the Cubs have been slowly building their team for a couple years. Remember they made it to the NLCS last year and lost. This year they have the best record in both conferences. He actually told me like 3 years ago that 2017 was their year. So they may be a year early.
I don't follow it that closely either but I'd also known they were up-and-coming with high expectations under Theo Epstein. But still. It's the Cubs. To win the World Series. Goat curses and all that.
Jokes aside Theo Epstein deserves his own wing in the Hall of Fame. First the Red Sox and now the Cubs. It really is amazing what he's accomplished.

In the original post, you indicated that you asked him if he wanted you to redeem it, and he said "no".
Quote: billryanMy friend did this with the Giants win over the then perfect Patriots. He took several photos of the him with the ticket, then reported the ticket lost. I'm not certain but I think it took awhile to get paid.
Do you know the amount? I am curious if they will kick up a huge fuss over such a small amount if I can give them the details from the bottom of the stub.
